The Team

Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides Pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out of pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team at NTPS comprises a large team involving multi-disciplinary scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and Pathologists.

The Role

• Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is located in the vibrant regional city of Launceston, LGH is the major referral hospital for Northern Tasmania, offering a high-quality clinical environment combined with an excellent lifestyle, including access to natural landscapes, food culture, and short commutes.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker position, working up to 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

• Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available

• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
• Motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
• Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%. Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
• Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 per annum, pro rata
• Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
• Professional development and accelerated pathways.
• A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
• Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
• other allowances as applicable.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

• Holds specialist registration; or

• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or

• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

• Experience in Anatomical Pathology, Cytopathology and Chemical Pathology

• Successful completion of the Australasian, or equivalent overseas, training program in Pathology
