About the roleWe’re offering an exciting opportunity for a
Staff Software Engineer to play a key role in shaping a high-impact customer acquisition and e-commerce platform. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership across critical initiatives, working closely with product, design, data, and platform teams to deliver robust, scalable, and future-proof systems.
You’ll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership—guiding architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and embedding engineering best practices. This is a role for someone who wants to make a tangible business impact while raising the technical bar across teams.You’ll take ownership of two major initiatives: Modernising the customer sign-up experience across multiple markets, improving personalisation, compliance, and mobile parity while decoupling legacy systems; Enabling marketing teams through CMS-driven, SEO-optimised landing pages and improved attribution, reducing engineering dependency and accelerating campaign delivery.
Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor engineers, promoting best practices such as XP, TDD, and pair programming through hands-on leadership
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, API-based and event-driven architectures
- Drive technical excellence by improving system architecture, solution quality, and developer productivity
- Guide and de-risk the delivery of large-scale technical initiatives, ensuring alignment with architectural patterns and non-functional requirements
- Collaborate closely with product, design, data, and platform teams to solve complex business challenges with effective technical solutions
- Align engineering efforts with wider business objectives while maintaining architectural integrity
- Advocate for continuous improvement, helping evolve engineering culture through XP principles, DORA metrics, and DevOps practices
- Promote shared ownership and operational excellence across teams
Requirements
- Strong track record as a hands-on senior/staff-level engineer delivering scalable, secure systems
- Proven experience leading or influencing architecture and technical direction across teams or domains
- Experience working with API-based and event-driven systems, cloud services, and a mix of relational and NoSQL databases
- Comfortable collaborating with architects, principal engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong advocate of Agile and XP practices, including iterative, feedback-driven development
- Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term system sustainability
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards across teams
- Strong alignment with DevOps culture, shared ownership, and improving developer experience through tooling and process improvements
Nice to have
- Experience guiding multi-team or cross-domain technical initiatives
- Exposure to improving engineering effectiveness using DORA metrics
- Background in customer-facing platforms such as e-commerce, acquisition, or marketing systems.
