Vox Media Group LLC is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the technology behind New York Magazine’s journalism and consumer subscriptions business. Your primary focus will be the websites, publishing platform, and subscription experiences supporting New York, The Cut, Vulture, Intelligencer, The Strategist, Grub Street, and Curbed. You’ll also contribute to the NYMag mobile apps for iOS and Android.
As a hands-on technical engineering leader, you’ll help editors publish compelling stories, readers discover journalism they value, and subscribers get the most from their relationship with our brands. Your work will span editorial experiences and the subscriber journey, from registration and purchase through onboarding, account management, and ongoing engagement.
You’ll partner with product, design, editorial, and consumer revenue teams to guide technical decisions and deliver improvements across web and mobile. You’ll also help advance our responsible use of AI and agentic workflows to increase delivery speed, expand engineering capacity, and improve efficiency.
Our web platform uses Node.js, Express, Clay CMS, Vue, and Handlebars. Our mobile app uses TypeScript, React Native, and Expo. You’ll work across these technologies and the services connecting content, customer accounts, and subscriptions.
We value curiosity, trust, respect, and clear communication. We’re looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, learning from colleagues, and helping the whole team succeed. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t match every technology listed.
