Job Description
About the company
Our client is a fast-growing healthcare technology company.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Guide the technical strategy for a platform engineering group responsible for large-scale data movement between internal services and outside systems. Take cross-team initiatives from early design to live operation while coaching experienced engineers and strengthening engineering practices.
What you'll do
- Define the technical roadmap for a data platform and decide what gets built and how it is delivered as demand grows.
- Own the architecture for data pipelines, workflow engines and storage layers that exchange information with a wide range of external systems.
- Look several quarters ahead for scaling and reliability concerns and resolve them before they cause outages.
- Set expectations for monitoring, tracing, alerting, service level targets and safe production releases.
- Drive large initiatives that span multiple systems, covering design, build, migration, launch and ongoing operations.
- Work with platform and product colleagues to safeguard sensitive information, strengthen security controls and meet compliance obligations.
- Coach senior engineers, lead design discussions and offer candid, constructive feedback.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- A decade or more of hands-on experience designing and running large, high-volume distributed software.
- Advanced knowledge of Postgres or a comparable relational database, including concurrency handling and query and storage tuning.
- A track record of making sound architectural calls on long-running projects with real-world limits.
- Production experience with a major cloud platform and container orchestration, plus strong backend skills in Python and Go.
- Working knowledge of core network behavior and fluency with monitoring and observability tooling.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Skill at translating engineering tradeoffs into plain language that business partners can act on.
- Experience guiding experienced engineers through reviews and feedback.
- A habit of spotting structural weaknesses early and fixing their underlying causes.
- Comfort with ambiguity and pace in a young company, including frequent releases and carrying work from concept to delivery.
- Ability to work hybrid from the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles; this role is not remote.
Bonus points
- Background with healthcare data exchange standards, or with regulated environments requiring HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance; fintech or fast-growing SaaS experience is also valued.
- Experience with durable workflow orchestration tools.
