Proofpoint is looking for an excellent Staff Software Engineer to join the Digital Loss Prevention development team. We’re developing cutting-edge solutions centered on understanding and protecting companies and employees from the loss or theft of their sensitive information. We are a tight knit team, focused on growing the product and our own skillsets in this ever-changing landscape of software and security. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer who possesses a passion for using cutting edge techniques, to continuously improve the product and team, and developing/designing solutions to solve some of the difficult problems working with large and diverse datasets.

Your day-to-day

• Take end-to-end ownership of architecture and deployment, working with your team and other teams in the company as necessary.
• Participate in and lead design reviews and help the team arrive at practical and effective solutions.
• Help develop solid architectural solutions to deliver high quality products in a continuous integration and deployment environment.
• Write great production-ready code and participate in code reviews.
• Drive important technical decisions and help understand and mitigate risks as needed.
• Work with other groups to facilitate better use of products and services build by our team.
• Mentor junior members of the team.
• Above all, be a great teammate and help us maintain our positive culture.

What you bring to the team

• Superb skills and a deep knowledge of Computer Science, programming, design and architecture.
• At least 8 years of hands-on software development experience.
• Track record of full product life cycle development, from design to production, building 24x7 SaaS systems.
• Strong programming skills in Scala or Java and/or similar programming languages.
• Proven Experience with building scalable, reliable and resilient distributed systems.
• Expertise with running JVM based systems in production environments.
• Experience working on an agile software development team using Jira Software.
• Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and inter-personal skills.
• Be motivated, detail-oriented, and have the ability to thrive in a team environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable compensation and/or equity. We offer a competitive benefits package, including flexible time off, a comprehensive well-being program with two paid Wellbeing Days and two paid Volunteer Days per year, plus a three-week Work from Anywhere option.

Base Pay Ranges:

SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 200,300.00 - 293,810.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 167,300.00 - 245,355.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 152,900.00 - 224,235.00 USD
