Job Description

As a staff software engineer you will be tasked with technically deep, highly influential engineer who can lead complex systems end-to-end, shape architectural direction, and grow the engineers around them. Someone who takes full ownership — from design to production to incident resolution — and drives impact across teams.

What Will You Do?

Primary responsibility include:

• Besides Hands-on Coding
• Architect and own large-scale distributed systems end-to-end, from design through production.
• Drive technical direction and best practices across the team and adjacent teams.
• Lead delivery of complex, ambiguous initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Own past incidents — lead root cause analysis, drive permanent fixes, and share learnings broadly.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders — translate technical complexity into business context.
• Evaluate technology trade-offs and make pragmatic tech debt decisions that balance speed with long-term health.

What Skills and Knowledge Should You Bring?

Ideal candidate will have:

• Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s + 12 years of experience / Master’s + 8 years / PhD + 5 years.
• Core Engineering:
• Deep Java internals knowledge — concurrency, JVM, memory model, and performance tuning.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Solid experience with unit and integration testing practices.
• Distributed Systems & Architecture:
• Proven experience designing distributed systems — partitioning, consistency, availability trade-offs.
• Hands-on with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms such as Kafka or SQS.
• Experience with high-scale API design, database design and sharding, and circuit breaker patterns.
• Cloud & Infrastructure:
• Hands-on with AWS core services: EC2, S3, SQS, IAM.
• Experience with Docker/containerisation and CI/CD pipelines.
• Leadership & Soft Skills:
• Strong ownership mindset — takes accountability for outcomes, not just tasks.
• Proven cross-team influence — drives alignment without formal authority.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and contributing to their career growth.
• Comfortable with ambiguity — breaks down unclear problems and delivers under uncertainty.
