About the role

This is a new position. We are adding a Staff-level engineer to hold technical direction across multiple projects.

We have recently acquired QFloors, a company building an ERP solution for the flooring industry. We are in the process of modernizing and integrating this platform with the rest of our system.

The migration of QFloors from our 20+ year-old desktop software system to a modern web stack is the largest engineering program in this part of the company. It is multi-tenant, runs on live customer data, and moves one business domain at a time while dealers keep working. Each domain has to be designed once and land correctly in both codebases, in the right order, with a safe cutover per tenant. That takes someone who designs six plus months ahead, sees across both sides (Desktop & Web), and can hold a line on architecture while the teams ship every release.

You will not be the manager of these teams, and you will not be a specialist confined to one stack. You will be the most senior engineer in the room for both, and the person the engineering manager and the CTO look to for what the platform should become.

About our stack

• Web: Python, Django, Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, AWS
• QFloors desktop: C++ on Windows, PostgreSQL, delivered through Azure Virtual Desktop

What you'll do

• Own the technical direction of the QFloors-to-ERP migration across both teams: the domain sequencing, the data model each domain lands on, the cutover strategy per tenant, and the seams that let the desktop and the web ERP run side by side until the last domain moves.
• Design six-plus months ahead. Anticipate what both teams will need, break the work down so engineers at different levels can be productive on it, and identify the foundational investments before they become blockers.
• Drive the largest projects in the program to completion, staying hands-on in the code where it matters most and delegating where it doesn't.
• Elicit requirements and lead design discussions across the full range of technologies both teams use, from the legacy desktop code to the Django services and the Next.js surfaces in Roomvo Pro.
• Evaluate competing approaches on quality risk, considering the technology, the delivery process, and the team's expertise, and guide the teams to the best one. Be willing to change a technology in use and lead everyone through the change.
• Set the bar for reviews on both teams. Review the work and the feedback other reviewers give, spot the patterns worth turning into standards or automation, and build the trust that lets you delegate review responsibility.
• Mentor everyone, on every technology either team uses. Grow the engineers who came up on the desktop side into full contributors on the web stack.
• Keep the platform observable, scalable, and cheap to run. Know the strengths and limits of what we use, including the Azure footprint the desktop product still depends on, and make sure the transition off it creates no drag.
• Partner with the engineering manager, product, and the CTO on the roadmap. Bring proposals, not problems. When something is blocked, come with an alternative way to organize the work.
• Help us hire and onboard. You will be trusted to evaluate the technical depth of candidates for both teams.
• Drive the design, architecture, and delivery of complex backend systems that enable 3D and computer vision experiences at scale.
• Lead the development of mission-critical APIs, data pipelines, and services that support high-traffic applications used globally.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to define technical direction, identify foundational investments, and plan for scale and performance.
• Serve as a force multiplier by mentoring senior engineers, conducting architecture reviews, and enabling high-quality, high-velocity development across teams.
• Champion engineering excellence and set the technical bar for backend systems in terms of scalability, resiliency, observability, and maintainability.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives that span multiple teams and stakeholders across the business.
• Help shape the long-term technical vision and culture of the engineering organization.
• Influence hiring, onboarding, and growth strategies to ensure a strong and healthy team over time.

We’re looking for someone with

• 8+ years of software development experience building and operating scalable, reliable systems that businesses depend on in production.
• A track record of leading a multi-team migration or re-platforming of a system with live users and live data, end-to-end.
• Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, networking, databases.
• Strong data modelling and relational database skills. You have designed schemas for multi-tenant systems and safely migrated data between them.
• Proven ability to design distributed services with performance, observability, and fault tolerance in mind.
• Strong architectural instincts and the ability to make high-leverage technical decisions that hold across multiple teams and codebases.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor senior engineers, guide teams through ambiguity, and raise engineering practices across the board.
• Exceptional ownership mindset. You drive initiatives forward, raise the bar, and deliver lasting impact.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including with people who are not engineers.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-autonomy, product-driven environment.

Preferred, not required:

• Experience with ERP, accounting, or other business management software, or with e-commerce and catalogue management.
• Experience with Python and Django on the backend, or a comparable framework.
• Experience with Windows application development and with Azure infrastructure. Our desktop product runs there today, and you will be touching both while it does.
• Familiarity with our stack is strongly preferred, but deep expertise in analogous systems and a willingness to learn are welcome.
