Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Appian Architect & Technical Lead to design, develop, and govern solutions on the Appian low-code/no-code business process automation platform. This role combines hands-on solution development with technical leadership, including architecture guidance, code and design reviews, development standards, and coaching of team members. The ideal candidate will help ensure that Appian solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned to business outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in domain technical and business discussions relative to the future architecture direction for Appian-based workflow and business process automation solutions.
  • Assist in the analysis, design, and development of a roadmap and implementation plan based on current vs. future state architecture in a cohesive solution viewpoint.
  • Gather and analyze business, process, data, and technical requirements at the project level and translate them into scalable Appian solution designs.
  • Participate in Enterprise Architecture governance and help ensure Appian solutions align with enterprise standards, security requirements, and integration patterns.
  • Support software and data delivery platforms with reusable Appian components, shared objects, integrations, and design patterns that can be orchestrated across multiple solutions.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, Appian platform capabilities, and industry trends to support project development and operational improvement activities.
  • Lead Appian solution architecture, technical design patterns, and implementation best practices across applications.
  • Perform hands-on Appian development including user interfaces, records, process models, data fabric objects, business rules, reports, and integrations.
  • Conduct technical design reviews and code reviews; establish and reinforce development standards, quality expectations, and maintainability practices.
  • Collaborate with product owners, subject matter experts, platform administrators, architects, and delivery teams to align technical solutions to business outcomes.
  • Ensure performance, security, compliance, and supportability considerations are incorporated into solution designs.
  • Drive continuous improvement through DevOps and CI/CD alignment, reusable component strategy, and standardization of development practices.
  • Document solution architectures, reference implementations, technical standards, and architectural decision logs.
  • Mentor and coach developers to build Appian platform capability across the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Distinct Area of Work (DAW)or IT
  • Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience

Technical Expertise:

  • Ability to consult with customers and stakeholders on aligning business outcomes with Appian-based technical solutions at an enterprise level.
  • Ability to analyze, design, and develop a solution roadmap and implementation plan based on a current vs. future state of the business and application landscape.
  • Working knowledge of Appian configuration choices and related delivery, support, and scalability implications; experience with complex solution configurations preferred.
  • Knowledge of Appian platform capabilities including process orchestration, records, interfaces, data modeling, integrations, and application governance.
  • Understanding of full software delivery lifecycle phases including planning, implementation, steady-state support, optimization, and decommissioning.
  • Ability to lead early-stage customer and stakeholder interactions, shape solution direction, and guide teams in integrating Appian solutions with legacy and enterprise technology investments.
  • Familiarity with software development and process automation concepts.
  • Experience developing software in a web-based environment.
  • Understanding of integration patterns, data modeling, workflow orchestration, and enterprise application architecture.
  • Experience performing technical reviews and guiding others in solution quality, supportability, and maintainability.
  • Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth/SAML, and enterprise integration approaches is preferred.
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development lifecycle practices is preferred.
  • Appian platform experience in design, implementation, and governance is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of solution delivery tradeoffs and can communicate recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Leadership:

  • Ability to foresee obstacles, identify workarounds, leverage resources, and rally teammates around solution delivery goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and/or lead blended teams, including third-party partners, platform administrators, and customer personnel.
  • Demonstrated change management and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including creativity and curiosity, with the ability to communicate effectively and influence across all organizational levels.
  • Proven analytical thinking and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to influence and build consensus with other Information Technology (IT) teams, architects, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach team members and promote engineering best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Appian certifications such as Appian Certified Associate Developer, Senior Developer, Lead Developer, or Architect
  • Experience defining Appian development standards, reusable frameworks, and governance practices.
  • Experience supporting multiple applications or a portfolio of workflow/process automation solutions.
  • Full-stack development background with the ability to work across UI, process, data, and integration layers.

Notes:

The base pay range for this position is $112,000 to $165,000 annually The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on August 10th, 2026.
