Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Performs patient assessments in a systematic and organized manner to provide high quality and safe outcomes.
  2. Provides direction and collaborates with team members to support a healthy work environment.
  3. Analyzes collected data to formulate a plan of care that contributes to high quality and safe outcomes.
  4. Implements a plan of care with measurable criteria consistent with work class performance levels.
  5. Evaluates the plan of care with the patient and family/support system to maintain world class levels of patient satisfaction and outcomes.
  6. Contributes to a high performance work environment by seeking educational resources that enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills.

Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned:

Must also perform the following department specific duties:

  1. Achieve NRP Certification within six months of hire and maintain throughout.
  2. Attend S.T.A.B.L.E. class within eight months of hire and maintain throughout,.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of OB specific medications (Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate)
  4. Performs sterile vaginal exams to assess labor progress (dilation, effacement, station, position)
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of fetal monitoring, including application of fetal scalp electrode and interpretation of reassuring and non-reassuring fetal monitoring strips.
  6. Demonstrates competency in scrubbing/circulating for C-Sections
  7. Utilizes appropriate Breastfeeding techniques, holds and equipment to promote successful breast-feeding
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of infant security procedures
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of oxygen therapy in the treatment of newborns with respiratory distress
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of infant umbilical catheters
  11. Recognize signs and symptoms of hyperbilirubinemia and provide Phototherapy set-up, use and cleaning of equipment
  12. Demonstrates proficiency in preforming and documenting newborn hearing screens, and CHD screens
  13. Demonstrates knowledge in caring for the stillborn and offering grief support to the family.
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse license from the Indiana State Board of Nursing. Some areas may require a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Experience: Graduate of RN Program
