Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff RF Microwave Design Engineer to join our the team. This position is located in Huntsville, AL and supports the Sentinel program.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Space System team supporting the Navy’s Nuclear Sea Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM-N) program.
This will include development of hardware, software and systems for all parts of the weapon system. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with users, customers and other engineers.
Responsibilities include design, development, test radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products. Includes red/blue radar modeling, antenna design, receiver/transmitter design, RCS analysis, and link budget analysis.
The successful candidate will be able to perform the following essential functions:
RF hardware testing and, design and analysis using computer aided design (CAD)
Proficiency in electromagnetic theory, electromagnetic analysis, and performance budgeting/allocation
Conduct trade studies for electrical architecture and component selection
Tolerance and stability analysis and test data analysis for respective hardware designs
Coordinate among multiple disciplines to balance requirements
Finalize the electrical design, support prototype and final hardware build & test
Basic Qualifications:
Education and Experience: 12 Years with BS; 10 Years with Masters; 8 Years with PhD
US Citizenship with an Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain DoD Top Secret in a reasonable timeframe.
Understanding of radio frequency (RF) theory as it relates to both communications and radar
Familiarization with DoD systems and subsystems (e.g. weapons platforms, C2ISR platforms, SATCOM, IFF, radar, radios, data links, munitions)
Analyze communications systems for RF applications. (Familiar with RF analyses such as link budgets, digital modulation/coding, gain/loss budgets, noise figure, etc.)
Experience in modeling and analyze RF systems and networks using modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, STK, Qualnet, and Keysight SystemVue, Finite Element Modeling tools for antennas and electromagnetics such as ANSYS HFSS and Altair FEKO.
Familiar with deployment of DoD Systems such as IFF, Radar Systems, Radio Communications, Data Links, Munitions, Aircraft Representation
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DoD Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS//SCI)
Experience modeling weapon system performance using Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
Experience with Navy submarine and/or cruise missile systems
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering using CAMEO

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.The application period for the job is estimated to be 20 days from the job posting date.
