Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Biological Chemistry works in the fields of cryoEM and structural biology.

Under general supervision of Prof. Gonen, the incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day running of the cryoEM lab; collaborating (when necessary) with various users; collect cryoem data; analyze cryoem data; solve structures (biological, organic, inorganic); train users; keep records; maintain all microscopes and related equipment; maintain stocks of consumables; Interface with companies providing maintenance to the equipment; file reports after each user; file an annual report of expenditure and income;

In addition, the incumbent will undertake research projects as directed by Prof Gonen and will be making independent contributions to research and experiments in cryoem.

The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and performing a variety of new and on-going experimental protocols, making significant and innovative contributions to cryoem pertaining to complex experimental procedures. Incumbent may be involved in writing and publishing manuscripts in journals, attend and present research results at laboratory meetings and academic conferences, and draft grant proposals as needed under the guidance of Prof Gonen.

Salary: $5,813.34 - $9,349.02 monthly


Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in managing general responsibilities, such as ordering, maintenance of sample dewars and laboratory equipment’s; teaching students and other personnel cryoem; processing data; structure refinement and solution;
  • Training and experience in the library making and data analysis of next-generation sequencing data, including RNA sequencing and exome sequencing as well as in multiple genotyping techniques as well as molecular, biochemical and cellular research.
  • Knowledge of cryoem software for data analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform independently organize and prioritize jobs (for self and assigned lab staff), manage time, and meet deadlines.
  • Must have deep expertise in cryoem; structure determination of macromolecules; crystallization of protein, protein complexes and ligands; data collection strategies; structure refinement, analysis, determination, reporting and documentation.
  • Ability in designing study strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing experiments and/or laboratory techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish new laboratory procedures and protocols successfully.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing cryoem laboratories for at least 2 years; interfacing with users; maintenance of all infrastructure.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor in Chemistry or equivalent work experience preferred.
