Primary Duties and Responsibilities


The Department of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases, is seeking to hire a Staff Research Associate 2 to support research focused on bacterial culturing from human biopsy samples. Key responsibilities include obtaining patient consent for biopsy collection during clinically indicated colonoscopies, performing bacterial culture to isolate Escherichia coli from biopsy specimens, and conducting genomic sequencing of these isolates. The position will also involve coordinating with laboratory team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and supporting the maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities associated with this work.
Hourly range: $31.23-$50.24


Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to use a personal computer and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to organize and present results in an appropriate format.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently after training.
  • Ability to read and understand scientific protocols.
  • Ability to work in an aseptic environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work schedule.
  • 1+ years prior experience culturing bacteria in BSL2 laboratory environments.
  • 1+ years prior experience performing nucleic acid extraction, sequencing library preparation, and genome assembly
  • 3+ months prior experience recruiting patients for clinical/translational research.

Preferred:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or comparable field
