Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology is looking to hire a Staff Research Associate 1 to support vaccine development research. This position will assist with daily laboratory operations, including cleaning and maintenance, washing and sterilizing glassware, preparing reagents, restocking supplies, autoclaving, and proper disposal of biohazardous waste. The incumbent will also support graduate students and senior scientists with laboratory experiments, including nucleic acid isolation, cell culture, transfection, Western blotting, ELISA, PCR, as well as data collection and analysis. This role is supervised by a graduate student and the Principal Investigator (PI).

Hourly range: $30.12-$35.92

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related life science, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic molecular biology, immunology, and biochemical principles.
  • Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, incubators, tissue culture hoods, ELISA reader, imager, and electrophoresis apparatus.
  • Ability to create and maintain records accurately.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and Graphpad.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with faculty, research scientists, and students.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and perform a variety of routine cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Skills in using BSL2 laboratory practices and sterile techniques.
  • Skills in performing western blots, cell culture, and ELISA.
  • At least one year of experience in a research laboratory with autoclaving, preparing reagents, basic molecular biology techniques

Preferred:
