The Staff Psychiatrist provides a full range of outpatient psychiatric services to children, adolescents, and families at Family Service & Guidance Center (FSGC), including psychiatric consultation, prescribing and monitoring medication, and Psychotherapy (with pre-approval and within the limits established by the Chief Medical Officer). Collaboration and consultation with community agencies, other medical providers (especially the client's primary care physician) and schools is also expected.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office based working environment requiring long periods of sitting, use of the keyboard and personal computer, dictation of clinical services and speaking on the phone. Medical documentation is done within an electronic medical record and requires viewing a computer monitor and proficient key board skills. At times the children/youth express themselves by verbal or physical acting out. Restraining acting out youth using MAB protocol is a possible occurrence.

FSGC was established in 1904 to help Topeka flood victims. As the needs in our community have changed, so has our focus. Today, Family Service & Guidance Center’s experts work closely to provide carefully tailored direct clinical services, prevention education and outreach to nearly 12,000 children and teens living with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other mental health issues and their families from 38 Kansas counties each year. Family Service & Guidance Center offers a broad range of services, including outpatient therapy; child and adolescent psychiatry; an anxiety treatment program; a therapeutic preschool for children ages 2-6 with severe emotional and behavioral problems; the Youth Development Program for school-age children and teens; crisis services available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; Families Supporting Recovery for adolescents dealing with mental illness and substance use issues; community-based services, including case management; Transitions to Adulthood Program for young adults with mental illness; and the popular Happy Bear abuse prevention program.
