Scope of Position: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization, The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care.
The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire:
On-going: Maintains current Ohio RN license. Meets mandatory educational and health requirements. Demonstrates computer skills required to meet job functions.
We are an Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (unit of University Hospital) on the 4 th floor. We have 29 beds. Our patient population is Stroke and General Rehabilitation.( This includes things like burns, transplants, cardiac issues including LVAD’s, amputations and orthopedics.) We admit patients 16 and older.
1:5 nurse to patient ratios with flex to 1:4 for High Acuity Rehab Patients that may include telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, infectious workup, care for complex patients
We are focused on both staff and patient safety and utilize lots of ergonomic equipment including ceiling lifts in all patient rooms, floor lifts, transfer devices, shower chairs, stand assist devices, slide boards, and more. We are a Magnet Hospital and in 2025 we obtained our 5 th redesignation. We are CARF accredited in these specialty areas: Comprehensive Inpatient Rehab Program, Brain Injury Program, Spinal Cord Injury Program, Stroke Program, and Oncology Program.
