Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Staff Nurse – Oncology (In Patient Unit) for a hospital in Galway, Ireland . Staff Nurse – Oncology (In Patient Unit) Location: Galway, Ireland Responsibilities Deliver safe, compassionate and evidence-based nursing care to patients within the inpatient medical and oncology unit Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, identify patient needs and develop individualised care plans Implement, monitor and evaluate nursing interventions to ensure effective and patient-centred care Safely administer medications, treatments and therapies in accordance with prescribed plans, clinical guidelines and hospital policies Closely monitor patients for changes in condition, treatment responses and potential complications, escalating concerns appropriately Provide specialist nursing support to patients receiving oncology care and assist them in managing treatment-related symptoms and side effects Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medications, symptom management and ongoing care needs Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective communication, continuity of care and positive patient outcomes Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, patient records and handover information in accordance with professional standards Promote infection prevention and control, patient safety, dignity and confidentiality throughout all aspects of care Support patients and families emotionally throughout their treatment journey, providing reassurance and appropriate information Recognise and respond promptly to clinical deterioration, emergencies and changes in patient needs Contribute to discharge planning, health education and coordination of ongoing care with relevant healthcare professionals Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support the implementation of evidence-based nursing practices Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development, education, training and awareness of current oncology nursing practice Requirements Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Previous experience in oncology nursing is highly desirable Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate and patient-centred care Genuine interest in developing and advancing clinical knowledge and skills in oncology nursing Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong commitment to teamwork, continuous learning and ongoing professional development Benefits Competitive and attractive salary package Support for professional development and continuous education Friendly and collaborative working environment Pension scheme participation
