
Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) in the day unit.
Conduct comprehensive pre-treatment assessments, including patient history, observations, blood results, treatment protocols, and fitness for chemotherapy.
Safely prepare, administer, and monitor chemotherapy and other anti-cancer treatments in accordance with prescribed protocols, hospital policies, and professional standards.
Monitor patients closely for treatment-related side effects, adverse reactions, and complications, taking appropriate action and escalating concerns promptly.
Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, expected side effects, symptom management, infection prevention, and when to seek medical assistance.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including treatment administration, patient assessments, adverse reactions, and nursing interventions.
Provide effective vascular access and line management, including care of peripheral cannulas and central venous access devices, while maintaining aseptic technique.
Collaborate effectively with oncologists, pharmacists, medical staff, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and patient-centred care.
Support the safe management of chemotherapy-related emergencies, including hypersensitivity reactions, extravasation, and other acute complications, in line with established protocols.
Participate in patient discharge, follow-up arrangements, clinical audits, quality improvement, infection prevention, and ongoing professional development within the oncology service.
Current NMBI registration as a Registered General Nurse
Recognised nursing qualification
Minimum 3 year post registration nursing experience
Previous oncology or chemotherapy experience is desirable
Recent experience in an acute hospital setting
Knowledge of chemotherapy administration and oncology nursing practices
Knowledge of managing chemotherapy side effects and treatment related complications
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong clinical, organisational, and time management skills
