
Demonstrates integration of the unique knowledge and technical skills required for the
specialty as per the role specific clinical practice definition in Appendix 1 and the SEHA
competency and training matrix.
Technical skills required for this area as outlined in Clinical Competency and Training
Matrix and/or the department/unit Scope of Service.
ICU nurses provide specialized care for critically ill adults with
life-threatening conditions such as trauma, sepsis, respiratory failure, burns,
and multi-organ dysfunction.
Their scope includes advanced monitoring, emergency response,
mechanical ventilation, vasopressor and dialysis therapies, complex
post-operative care, and skilled use of specialized equipment such as
ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, feeding tubes, catheters, and
central lines to optimize patient outcomes
In conjunction with, but not limited to, the Manager / Charge Nurse / CRN, identifies
own professional learning needs and develops a learning plan as required.
Participates in self and peer evaluation including reflective practice.
Initiates or participates in clinical research that contributes to continual improvement in
standards of care.
Develops and maintains own Professional Portfolio
Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units in
compliance with DOH requirements.
Bachelor Degree in Nursing OR
Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two (2) years course
duration AND
Successful completion of the National exam:
USA: NCLEX - RN
Canada: Licensing Exam
Required:
Minimum two (2) years clinical experience
