Mission Cancer & Blood, part of University of Iowa Healthcare is searching for Flex Chemotherapy Staff Nurse to Administer chemotherapeutic/biologic agents as well as participating in patient and family teaching regarding chemotherapeutic side effects and oncology disease process. Provides outpatient care to the oncology patient and collaborates with the physician as well as other team members to implement quality care. Serves as a replacement for Physician nurses during absences.Principal Flex Nurse Responsibilities:Cross trained to provide nursing coverage in both the Chemotherapy department and Physician Nurse role.Principal Physician Nurse Responsibilities Provided by Flex Nurse:Provide complete patient assessment, including vital signs, patient history, and review of systems. Gathers and assesses objective and subjective data from the patient providing direct nursing care.Documents data and assessments in the patient record. Use computer systems and information technology to ensure standard documentation, coding, and completion.Educate patients and families regarding the side effects of chemotherapy and the oncology disease process.Acts as a resource for patients, families, and other health professionals.Triage incoming phone calls from patients and other healthcare providers.Interdisciplinary communication with Chemotherapy department and all other ancillary departments to coordinate patient care.Coordinate and manage the outreach clinic schedule, including patient visits, treatments, and associated lab and radiology orders.Document nursing assessments, patient instruction, and other patient information as deemed necessary.Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and accurately document appropriate patient charges.Communicate and coordinate with outside agencies, staff, and patients to ensure a continuum of care.Manage refill requests and direct requests to providers.Manage incoming faxes and mail.Properly evaluate laboratory findings.Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.Communicates outstanding items and important patient information with Physician nurse at the completion of flex assignment with physician team.Travels to outreach clinic with Physician team when necessary.Principal Chemotherapy Nurse Responsibilities Provided by Flex Nurse:Provide direct nursing care for patients primarily in the administration of chemotherapy and related oncologic therapies.Educate patients and families regarding the side effects of chemotherapy/biotherapy and the oncology disease process.Act as a resource for patients, families, and other health professionals.Coordinate chemotherapy orders with physicians and physician’s nurses.Administer chemotherapy, hydration and other medications as ordered.Document nursing assessments, patient instruction, fluid, and medication administration.Perform venipunctures, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheters.Maintain knowledge of reimbursement procedures and accurately document chemotherapy charges.Monitor patients’ clinical treatment by performing nursing assessments and providing appropriate and timely interventions.Follow established policies, procedures and objectives including safety, environmental and/or infection control standards.Communicate and coordinate with outside agencies, staff, and patients to ensure a continuum of care.Properly evaluate laboratory findings.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Must not have been employed by UI Health Care in a similar position within 12 monthsPayment amount:Staff nurse with 0 - 4 years’ experience as a registered nurse: $5,000 issued on the first of the month upon successful completion of 60 days of employmentStaff nurse with 5 or more years’ experience as a registered nurse: $7,500 issued on the first of the month upon successful completion of 60 days of employmentStaff nurse with 10 or more years’ experience as a registered nurse: $10,000 issued on the first of the month upon successful completion of 60 days of employmentCommitment: Two years of employment in a Staff Nurse position within UI Health CareRepayment: Prorated amount of the sign-on payment if individual leaves before end of two-year commitment Benefits Highlights:
