Job Title: Staff Network Engineer

Location: Cork, Ireland

Reports to: Sr IT Architect

We are looking for a senior network engineer with strong hands-on experience across routing and switching, WAN, VPN, NAC, and load-balancing technologies. In this role, you will design, deliver, and support resilient global network infrastructure that enables Cadence’s business and engineering teams worldwide.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business and technology teams to understand organisational needs and translate them into scalable, secure network designs.
  • Design, plan, implement, and support global data centre and enterprise campus networks.
  • Lead and contribute to multiple high-impact initiatives in parallel, including large-scale network transformation programmes.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex network issues, providing deep technical analysis and resolution.
  • Design, configure, and support edge networks, WAN/MPLS environments, and cloud connectivity.
  • Improve operational efficiency through network automation, documentation, and enablement of the NOC team (e.g. runbooks, knowledge base, ticket trend reduction).
  • Proactively identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities across the network estate.
  • Define, audit, and evolve standards, best practices, and operating procedures for network technologies.

Required Skills & Experience (Must-have)

  • Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting production data centre and enterprise campus networks in a customer-facing or mission-critical environment.
  • Strong understanding of core networking protocols and concepts (e.g. TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Proven experience with routing, switching, firewalls, and network security principles, including Network Access Control (NAC).
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas:
    • Cisco Remote Access & Site-to-Site VPN
    • Aruba ClearPass NAC
    • F5 Load Balancers
  • Experience designing and supporting site-to-site and remote access VPNs, modern switching platforms, and firewall technologies.
  • Hands-on experience integrating on-premise networks with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Practical experience with network automation using tools or languages such as Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex, high-impact network issues.
  • Experience delivering and managing mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organisational skills, with a high level of professionalism.

Additional Experience (Nice-to-have)

  • Experience working in multi-vendor environments (e.g. Cisco, HPE, Aruba, Arista).
  • Experience enhancing network observability, monitoring, and security policy enforcement.
  • Prior involvement in global or highly distributed network environments.

Education & Certifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent expert-level networking certification.
