The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are seeking an articulate, highly skilled candidate to fill a Statewide Staff Interpreter position in Ogden. This position includes occasional travel to all USDB Campuses (Ogden, Salt Lake, and Springville).Principal Duties
As a Staff Interpreter, you will:Provide interpreting services as an ADA accommodation for deaf/hard-of-hearing staff members, teachers, parents, community members, and others in formal and informal agency and educational settings.Interpret for large and small group gatherings, such as public meetings, school functions, administrative meetings, student and parent meetings, employment interviews, and other school events.Adapt the signing level and system to the communication needs of those involved in each assignment.Follows the code of ethics for certified interpreters.Participate cooperatively as a member of the interpreting team.Communicate regularly with the Associate Superintendent of the School for the Deaf regarding interpreting needs and concerns.Follow the schedule as determined by the Associate Superintendent.Willing to attend in-services and training.
The ideal candidate will possess or be eligible for:Must possess a current Professional level interpreter certification from the Utah Certification Board or National Interpreter Certification from RID.There are moderate physical requirements for this position, as the work involves the physical exertion associated with sign language interpreting, including long periods of interpreting.Some travel is required. Must have and maintain a valid Utah driver's license and a clean driving record.Must be willing to work flexible hours to accommodate administrative needs.PreferencePreference may be given to current employees with the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the BlindSupplemental InformaitonCertification as an Interpreter in the State of Utah or other interpreter certifications recognized by the State of Utah.Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
