The Opportunity

Join Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) division, where we’re advancing life-changing technologies to treat heart rhythm disorders like atrial fibrillation—helping patients get back to living fuller lives.

In this role, you’ll drive Operational Excellence across our ablation catheter manufacturing operations. You’ll partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to lead continuous improvement initiatives, support new product introductions and line expansions, and help elevate our global OpEx maturity.

As a key change agent, you’ll:

  • Lead process improvements on the production floor—mapping workflows, identifying constraints, and increasing capacity

  • Champion Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, including DMAIC problem solving and Kaizen events

  • Drive projects that improve productivity, flow, and overall manufacturing performance

  • Coach teams and embed Operational Excellence tools and behaviors

  • Support both new product launches and post-market optimization efforts

What You’ll Work On

  • Support the Operational Excellence Strategy to build and grow a culture of continuous improvement across sites by evaluating, creating and driving standard "best practice" methodologies and tools that continuously improve existing processes.

  • Lead, mentor and teach the lean methodology across production and distribution locations.

  • Own planning and execution for continuous improvement / lean initiatives across the Manufacturing Operations.

  • Manage deployment and adoption of new processes utilizing effective and efficient tools/ templates.

  • Design and develop the governance of a LSS program from DMAIC Problem Solving Basics to MBB

  • Establish metrics that drive desired business performance.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

  • Utilize tools like DMAIC, Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processes.

  • Understand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, SPC, Lean, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.

  • Provides input for identification and planning of department goals and budget, development, standardization and implementation of initiatives intended to improve the quality, cost and delivery performance of Division Operations.

  • In conjunction with the Value Stream teams, supports productivity, quality, process efficiency, space utilization, standardization and lead time improvement efforts.

  • Identifies opportunities and supports the incorporation of appropriate Lean tool usage such as 5S, time study, line balancing, standard work and material flow into the daily functions of the Value Stream teams.

  • Coaches and facilitates presenting to all levels of the organization.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams as required.

  • Provides input into departmental budgeting processes as required.

  • Understands work environmental issues (i.e. OSHA regulations, etc.) and collaborates with EHS partners to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical field; advanced degree preferred (Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical or related Engineering area)

  • 6+ years Manufacturing/Industrial or Project engineering experience required.

  • LSS Black Belt Certification strongly preferred

  • Minimum 2+ years executing continuous improvement/lean projects

  • Solid communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and solve problems, by building relationships and collaborating.

  • Experienced influencer and facilitator, with a track record of managing change.

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous regulated manufacturing environment experience preferred.

  • Has worked with performance system elements such as Problem Solving, Strategy Activation, Value Stream Analysis, Tier and Policy Deployment, Gemba Management, Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, Line Balancing and Digital Tools.

  • Ability to travel approximately up to 10%, including internationally.
