Job Description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

The Business Development team at Clio builds and manages the strategic partnerships that extend our reach, deepen our product, and accelerate growth. We are looking for a senior and seasoned deal maker with expertise across both product partnerships and growth partnerships. Reporting directly to the VP of Business Development, this senior business development leader will help Clio forge important partnerships with Big Tech, legal technology firms, ISVs, and other technology partners. This is a high-impact individual contributor role for someone who can operate at a strategic level while rolling up their sleeves to drive execution.

What You’ll Work On

  • Strategically identify areas for partnership and build a pipeline of high-value deals — negotiating and managing partnerships across third-party apps, GTM partners, content partners and strategic partners.
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering to identify partnership opportunities and evaluate them against a build, buy, partner framework; solicit opportunities to and from partners to inform product development decisions.
  • Work closely with Go-To-Market (GTM) teams, including Marketing and Channel, to bundle, solution, and sell partner solutions alongside Clio’s first-party solutions, driving joint marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Legal and Compliance to ensure Clio meets all legal and regulatory requirements across its partnerships and integrations.
  • Collaborate with, inspire, and mentor a team of Business Development Managers, Partnership Managers, and other relevant roles to drive successful partnership outcomes.
  • Develop and execute monetization strategies within the scope of partnerships and integrations, driving revenue growth and maximizing value for both Clio and its partners.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders — including partners, executives, and cross-functional teams — to ensure alignment and successful partnership outcomes.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and initiatives as needed to support the growth and success of the business.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of experience as a strategic leader in partnerships or business development, with a track record of success in scaling and expanding businesses.
  • Strong negotiation and complex deal-structuring skills, with a deep understanding of partnership dynamics in a SaaS environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic growth plans and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • A history of working in small, high-performing teams with outsized impact.
  • The ability to think and operate at a strategic level, but drive execution at a tactical level — with the willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • A data-driven, highly analytical mindset, with the desire and ability to dig into metrics, derive insights, build defensible business cases for partnerships, and drive decisions.
  • A high degree of comfort negotiating term sheets and partnership agreements in collaboration with legal teams.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • A strong understanding of the legal tech ecosystem.
  • Experience in the legal industry or legal-tech industry.
  • Experience at a top-tier strategy consulting firm.

What Success Looks Like

  • A qualified, prioritized pipeline of high-value partnership opportunities, sequenced against Clio’s product and growth priorities.
  • Signed, well-structured partnerships that deliver measurable revenue, lead volume, and strategic value for Clio and its partners.
  • Strong cross-functional alignment across Product, Engineering, GTM, and Legal on how partnerships are evaluated, sequenced, and brought to market.
  • A trusted internal and external reputation as a deal maker who balances commercial rigor with durable, win–win partner relationships.
