About the Role
We are seeking an innovative SAP Technical Lead / Staff Developer to drive the technical direction of custom development on S/4HANA environment, champion Clean Core architecture, and lead delivery from system Integrator.
This is a hands-on senior role responsible for designing high-quality solutions across Manufacturing, Supply Chain, logistics and Finance modules, governing code quality and secure deployment, and pioneering modern tooling, including AI-assisted development and automation to streamline delivery.
The ideal candidate pairs strong object-oriented ABAP and RAP expertise with architectural judgment and a track record of mentoring technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as SME for all core ERP modules.
Design and implement custom solutions using OOP ABAP, RAP, OData services, CDS Views, AMDP, BRF+, and Custom Fields & Logic (CFL).
Drive Clean Core governance, establishing guardrails against modifications to standard tables and objects.
Lead conversations and delivery with System Integrator through S/4HANA upgrades and serve as primary technical contact.
Direct automated testing framework execution (ABAP Unit) for custom repository objects to mitigate regression and deployment defects.
Develop high-performance RAP & OData, maintaining clean boundaries between backend logic and UI5/Fiori.
Build developer-productivity tooling, including VSCODE, SAP ADT scripts and AI-assistant integrations, to automate connectivity, enforce standards, and accelerate onboarding.
Co-develop integrations and middleware patterns (e.g., MCP servers for SAP ADT) that programmatically enforce development guardrails.
Conduct code reviews and provide firefighting support for production issues across the SDLC.
Mentor developers and contribute to enterprise deployments and full-lifecycle rollouts.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field.
10+ years of SAP development experience across ECC and S/4HANA, with experience in a technical lead capacity.
Strong expertise and Hands-on experience in OOP ABAP, RAP, OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP.
Experience designing and executing automated/ABAP Unit testing for custom objects.
Functional domain familiarity across core ERP modules.
Proven experience leading onshore/offshore development teams and delivering enterprise solutions.
Proficiency with version control and modern tooling (Bitbucket/Git, SAP ADT).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, working both independently and in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience embedding AI frameworks and automation into the development workflow (e.g., Joule, MCP servers, AI assistant plugins, SAP ADT scripts).
Exposure to SAP BTP services and extensibility.
Experience delivering RAP and OData V2 & V4 applications for manufacturing, procurement, and inventory scenarios.
Experience with full-lifecycle SAP rollouts across multiple industries.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, you will set the technical standard for our SAP development practice, delivering Clean Core aligned solutions, leading upgrades and logistics streams with disciplined quality gates, and introducing modern AI-assisted tooling that measurably accelerates a global team while keeping production stable and audit-ready.

At Slate, we’ve got one job: building a vehicle you’ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyers—not car companies—should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We don’t like paying for stuff we don’t need. We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
