Job Description
Staff Engineer - Production & Sourcing
Get to Know the Role:
As a Staff Engineer, you will be a principal technical leader driving the evolution of production and sourcing systems. You will bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and technical execution, designing scalable systems that elevate our customer experience.
This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to mentor engineering teams. You will influence our architecture across SAS and on-premises systems.
What You’ll Do:
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Define the Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable, resilient, and secure microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Tech Stack Evolution: Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI-driven development) and introduce them to the ecosystem sustainably.
- Guard Technical Quality: Establish engineering standards and best practices leveraging the already existing AEO standards. Conduct architecture reviews to minimize technical debt and ensure robust, resilient systems.
Strategic Collaboration
- Business Alignment: Partner closely with Product Management, Data Science, and business users to translate business needs and goals into technical roadmaps.
Mentorship & Culture
- Team Elevation: Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, psychological health, and technical excellence.
- Influence Without Authority: Guide cross-functional teams toward shared technical visions and advocate for engineering initiatives.
What You Bring:
- Years of Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a Staff/Principal or equivalent technical leadership role.
- Retail Domain Expertise: Experience in the retail or related sector, with knowledge of supply chain, inventory allocation and basic warehouse operations.
- Backend & Cloud: Mastery of modern backend languages (e.g., C# Core, React, java) and cloud platforms, preferably GCP.
- Data & Event Streaming: Strong experience with event-driven architectures using technologies like Kafka to handle high-volume traffic.
- Database Design: Proficiency with SQL databases, optimized for high availability and consistency.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A pragmatic mindset that balances perfect architectural design with business delivery speed.
- Experience with Centric SAS solution or Bamboo Rose PLM
What Success Looks Like in 90 days
- Deep dive into the current tech stack and overall flows of the systems within production and sourcing, build relationships with cross-functional partners, and identify bottlenecks in the supply chain processing pipeline.
Perks: Why You’ll Love it Here
- Generous Associate Discount: Treat yourself to the best our brands offer!
- Summer Fridays: More time for the sun and the weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
- Casual Dress Code: Come as you are (and stay comfy).
- Hybrid Schedule: Enjoy a blend of home-office focus and in-office collaboration.
- In-Person Connection: While we love our digital tools, we love our people even more! To keep our culture thriving, in-person presence is required at one of our Pittsburgh or NYC headquarters, distribution centers or field locations for interviews, orientation and periodic quarterly meetups.
- FOMO (Fun Office Moments Only) Events: Exciting company-wide events you won’t want to miss!
