Staff Data Steward

Staff Data Steward – Product 360 Unit

The mission of Bayer Crop Science is centered on developing agricultural solutions for a sustainable future that will include a global population projected to eclipse 9.6 billion by 2050. We approach agriculture holistically, looking across a broad range of solutions from using biotechnology and plant breeding to produce the best possible seeds, to advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics designed to select the best possible crop system for every acre.

To make this possible, Bayer collects terabytes of data across all aspects of its operations, from genome sequencing, crop field trials, manufacturing, supply chain, financial transactions, and everything in between. There is an enormous need and potential here to do something that has never been done before. We need great people to help transform these complex scientific datasets into innovative software that is deployed across the pipeline, accelerating the pace and quality of all crop system development decisions to unbelievable levels.

A Data Steward at Bayer has rich subject matter and domain expertise, diverse technical skills, and a passion for the quality, integrity, and usability of data. Data Stewards are connectors - fostering vital relationships across a spectrum of roles and teams to ensure seamless flow and integrity of data, and a great user experience with our data platforms and services. Data Stewards are translators - bridging gaps between complex technical terms and business concepts; between technical execution and business strategy. And Data Stewards are problem solvers - getting hands on with other teammates to perform data analysis, build data pipelines, improve data quality, and teach by example how to use our data and data platforms.

What you will do is why you should join us. You will:

  • Be a critical senior member of a data engineering team focused on creating distributed analysis capabilities around a large variety of datasets;
  • Work with other top-level talent solving a wide range of complex and unique challenges that have real world impact;
  • Contribute your talent to relevant projects in an idea meritocracy;
  • Develop a deep understanding of our asset domain concepts, business processes, and data sources;
  • Share that understanding with Engineering teams, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and other stakeholders through discussions, presentations, and documentation;
  • Interact with our asset resources through multiple modes of access using standard tooling such as API clients, Postman, Python, SQL, and command line tools;
  • Answer questions through analysis of our datasets;
  • Lead and/or participate in design and support sessions across business organizations, lines of business, countries/hubs;
  • Communicate and align delivery dates, and integration efforts;
  • Advocate for, prioritize, and describe work in our Delivery Roadmap;
  • Partner closely with product owners, system analysts, and development teams to deliver data solutions aligned with an Agile roadmap;
  • Investigate and advocate for the inclusion of public, third party, and internal datasets;
  • Be accountable for data quality, governance, and usage of data.

If you share our values, you should have:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with 9+ years of relevant experience (or 7 years with Master’s Degree or 3 years with PhD) in areas such as technical business analysis and data analysis;
  • 5+ years of experience with data discovery and modeling to meet customer requirements;
  • Experience interacting with data-intensive APIs following common design patterns such as REST and resource-oriented principles;
  • Exceptional verbal and written technical communication skills toward facilitating the use of data and data services;
  • Ability to design and maintain efficient user feedback channels and documentation ranging from HTML/Markdown documents to Powerpoint presentations;
  • Ability to identify gaps in requirements based on knowledge of business subject matter domain;
  • Familiarity with source control management systems such as Git;

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in programming languages like Python;
  • Experience working with scientific datasets, or a background in the application of quantitative science to business problems;
  • Experience working within a life sciences R&D product development pipeline;
  • A demonstrated high degree of resourcefulness in navigating ambiguous situations via autonomous decision making;

This posting will be available for application until at least 7/21/2026.
