Job Description

About the role and team

Science at Uber means transforming the complex reality of global data into the insights that power our most significant decisions. As a Staff Data Scientist, you will turn extreme complexity into strategic clarity, serving as a technical North Star for our core platforms and global marketplaces. This is an analytics-focused leadership role where you won’t just answer questions — you will identify the questions we should be asking, foreseeing architectural problems and business opportunities at an organizational scale at least a year out.

You will join a high-stakes environment where you are expected to take a critical area of the business and up-level its technical trajectory, both directly and through the mentorship of others. Collaborating as a strategic partner to senior Product, Engineering, and Operations leadership, you will ensure that our long-term roadmap is rooted in rigorous scientific truth and scalable design. This role is about high-leverage influence and technical stewardship — if you are looking to build and productionize niche ML models, this is not the team; if you want to lead the organization through the messy reality of global scale and build the frameworks that define the future of movement, this is where you’ll grow.

Rate of Pay: $198,000 to $242,000 per year

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits. More details can be found at the following link https://www.uber.com/careers/benefits.

What you’ll do

  • Leverage data to perform intensive analysis across all areas of business to drive product development.
  • Design experiments and analyze results to draw conclusions.
  • Perform time-series analyses, hypothesis testing, and causal analyses to statistically assess relative impact and extract trends.
  • Build models to enhance understanding of user behavior and predict future performance of cohorts.
  • Create dashboards and reports to regularly communicate results and monitor key metrics.
  • Extract data from warehouse, back-test the model, and compare the model performance and communicate the results.
  • Develop end-to-end solutions to abstract business and engineering problems related to funnel optimization, user engagement, and user experience.
  • May telecommute.

Basic Qualifications

  • Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Any), Information Technology, Information Management, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field, followed by five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or in a related occupation.
  • Position requires:
    • R or Python;
    • Database query languages: SQL;
    • Experimentation techniques including simulation or A/B testing;
    • Statistical analysis including descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, or confidence intervals;
    • Developing relevant metrics;
    • KPIs to measure performance by product teams;
    • Quantitative modeling including machine learning models, time-series forecasting, or casual impact analyses.

About Uber

We are Uber. The go-getters. The kind of people who are relentless about our mission to help people go anywhere and get anything and earn their way. Movement is what we power. It’s our lifeblood. It runs through our veins. It’s what gets us out of bed each morning. It pushes us to constantly reimagine how we can move better. For you. For all the places you want to go. For all the things you want to get. For all the ways you want to earn. Across the entire world. In real time. At the incredible speed of now.

The idea for Uber was born on a snowy night in Paris in 2008, and ever since then our DNA of reimagination and reinvention carries on. We’ve grown into a global platform powering flexible earnings and the movement of people and things in ever expanding ways. We’ve gone from connecting rides on 4 wheels to 2 wheels to 18-wheel freight deliveries. From takeout meals to daily essentials to prescription drugs to just about anything you need at any time and earning your way. From drivers with background checks to real-time verification, safety is a top priority every single day. At Uber, the pursuit of reimagination is never finished, never stops, and is always just beginning.
