The Opportunity

The SandboxAQ Design team is one unified organization spanning brand, creative, and product, with designers embedded day-to-day in the Business Units they support. We are a lean, hands-on team, every designer here owns their work day to day, from strategy through execution. This role is our first dedicated hire for brand and visual design.

We are looking for a Staff Brand Designer to join our central Design team, reporting to the VP of Design. You will craft the vision of how SandboxAQ shows up, and execute it across mediums for a company whose work spans life sciences, chemistry, financial services, navigation, AI operations and cybersecurity. What makes this both hard and exciting: there is no brand practice to inherit and no team to delegate to; the vision gets built through the work.

In this role, you will:

• Set the creative direction for the SandboxAQ brand, and prove it in the work.
• Shape a cohesive parent brand and supporting assets across six domains. Life sciences, chemistry, financial services, navigation, AI operations and cybersecurity each deserve a visual expression of their own, but must still stand together as SandboxAQ.
• Own sandboxaq.com: design, build, ship, and maintain it, hands-on in the CMS.
• Create scalable solutions: Templates, kits, systems, and AI-assisted workflows that enable our team to scale beyond its size.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the SandboxAQ brand. Set the creative vision and build the design system — visual identity, components, guidelines, and the brand architecture for our sub-brands. You will be the most senior voice on brand at the company. We expect you to have a point of view, to be able to defend it, and to change our minds.
• Own the corporate web presence end to end. Design, build, and maintain sandboxaq.com and related properties (currently Webflow). You are the point of contact for corporate web, working directly in the CMS rather than handing specs to someone else.
• Produce high-craft work yourself. Conference and event graphics, brochures, one-pagers, infographics, executive and go-to-market materials. You’ll handle a steady stream of hands-on design work for our team. It is also the fastest route to moving the brand somewhere new, so we want someone who treats each piece as a chance to push the system rather than a ticket to close.
• Build scalable design processes and resources. Deck templates, brand kits, asset libraries, and repeatable processes that let people across the company self-serve high-quality work without routing through you.
• Partner across the company, and direct outside help when needed. Work with product designers, creative media, marketing, and go-to-market as a design partner brought in early to shape the problem, not a service desk taking requests at the end. Brief external partners and hold the standard on overflow or specialist work.

Essential Skills & Experience

• ~8+ years crafting brand systems, graphic design, and web design.
• Hands-on fluency with a modern CMS or visual web platform (Webflow, HTML/CSS), with the ability to take a site from design through build, launch, and ongoing maintenance yourself.
• Proven experience building design systems or component libraries: brand kits, templates, or asset libraries you built that non-designers genuinely adopted.
• Range with coherence: evidence of designing across visually distinct domains or audiences while holding a recognizable through-line, plus the ability to work with dense scientific and AI subject matter (LQMs, agentic systems, quantum-era security) and turn complex technical concepts into clear visual designs.
• Comfort building from scratch and working independently. You have established a brand or web practice where none existed, you use AI tools actively in your workflow, and you can write/present to win support for your ideas.

Highly Desired Skills & Experience

• Motion, animation, or interactive web/UI experience.
• Building interactive, web-native alternatives to static PDFs and decks.
• Brand or web experience in science, deep tech, healthcare, or other technically demanding fields.
• Baseline SEO and accessibility literacy.
• Print and production experience.
