The Staff Automation Engineer is a senior technical expert responsible for leading the design, development, coding, integration, validation, and optimization of advanced automation solutions ranging from semi‑automated equipment to fully automated production systems. This role requires deep expertise in mechanical design and controls engineering, robotics, machine vision, industrial software, statistical analysis, precision manufacturing, and emerging technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-enabled automation.

This position operates within a highly regulated environment (ISO 13485, GMP) and collaborates across several teams including quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to deliver robust, safe, scalable, and validated automation platforms for medical devices and other high-precision industries.

Job Requirements

1. Advanced Automation Development & Integration

- Design, develop, program, and integrate automation systems from semi-automatic stations to fully automated production lines.

- Program PLCs and PC-based control systems.

- Develop source code for in-house automation solutions (Python, C#, C++, MATLAB).

- Integrate industrial robots and cobots.

- Implement AI/LLM capabilities for smart diagnostics and inspection, as well as generative design for concept development.

2. Machine Vision & Intelligent Systems

- Develop machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, 2D/3D vision).

- Apply deep learning or AI-based image processing.

- Validate and document performance.

3. Mechanical Design & Tooling

- Design tooling, fixtures, gauges using CAD (SolidWorks, CREO, AutoCAD).

- Support rapid prototyping.

4. Process Engineering, Validation & Documentation

- Develop and optimize automated manufacturing processes.

- Execute IQ/OQ/PQ under ISO 13485/GMP.

- Apply DOE, SPC, FMEA, Lean, DRM.

5. Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics

- Lead improvements in yield, throughput, and stability.

- Benchmark new technologies.

- Use Power BI, Tableau, Smartsheet.

6. Cross-Disciplinary Technical Support

- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality engineering teams.

- Provide technical leadership.

- Collaborate with external integrators.

7. Costing, Quoting & Technical Planning

- Develop automation cost models.

- Perform cost/benefit analysis.

What your background should look like

Education

- Bachelor's degree in Automation, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Software Engineering.

- Advanced English level

Experience

- 10+ years in automation engineering with proven track of implementing automated solutions.

- Experience in medical devices desired but not mandatory, precision manufacturing, aerospace, automotive are also acceptable desired but not mandatory.

- ISO 13485, GMP, QSR experience in medical devices desired but not mandatory.

Technical Skills

- PLC/PC-based control programming.

- CAD design and tooling development.

- Coding (Python, C#, C++, MATLAB).

- Machine vision and AI/LLM implementation.

- DOE, SPC, FMEA, Lean, DRM.

- Cross-disciplinary engineering.
