Our Internal Audit Group is a worldwide function with 300+ team members and offices across nine countries within American Express. Our mission is to protect and enhance organizational value by providing independent, objective, risk-based assurance, advisory services and to influence the way the company manages risk.

We are committed to growing our audit staff significantly as we continue to expand and enhance the Internal Audit Group. Our assurance and risk professionals have diverse backgrounds including internal controls, consumer compliance, technology, operational risk, financial accounting, data analytics, and banking operations. Our audit teams align to key risk areas and business units to ensure IAG can provide comprehensive and risk-based audit coverage. In addition, IAG has a Professional Practices group responsible for managing audit operations, quality, and standards; regulatory relations; reporting; training and professional development; and key internal capabilities and technologies.

About the Role

The Internal Audit Group (IAG) is seeking a Staff Analyst based in New York and aligned to the Internal Audit Group’s Professional Practices team. The colleague will support resource planning, capacity management, skills-based planning, and third party oversight activities that strengthen IAG’s operating effectiveness and ability to deliver risk-based audit coverage. They will also contribute to delivering analyses and reporting that provide IAG leadership with the insights needed for critical resourcing decisions. The role will also help colleagues apply IAG methodologies, policies, and procedures while contributing to project execution, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support capacity planning and management, including monitoring team capacity and enabling effective adoption and understanding of capacity management tools and processes.
  • Assist in maintaining IAG’s resource planning tool, ensuring data accuracy, generating regular reports on staffing, and highlighting key trends and variances
  • Create capacity related dashboards, monitor KRIs, and review utilization data to highlight potential imbalances in staffing levels
  • Assist with Ad-Hoc related requests to support capacity management
  • Partner across teams and with leaders to identify opportunities to strengthen staffing, talent practices, and workforce effectiveness across IAG
  • Provide support to colleagues in the application of IAG operations, methodologies, and related policies and procedures, including responding to questions and providing guidance with oversight
  • Support the implementation and ongoing evolution of skills-based workforce planning, helping align colleague capabilities with audit needs and proactively identify and address skill gaps.
  • Help manage and enhance the co-source program, supporting resource management, governance, financial oversight, and partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Review IAG Audit Reports to ensure alignment with the audit database and IAG methodology
  • Support preparation of deliverables to address regulatory requests related to IAG’s resourcing, capacity, and third party oversight activities
  • Provide support to colleagues in the application of IAG operations, methodologies, and related policies and procedures, including responding to questions and providing guidance with oversight
  • Develop knowledge of the organization, operations, policies and procedures (including banking laws and regulations) under which Amex operates
  • Produce high-quality work within established deadlines, supporting project management initiatives, while staying open to constructive feedback and applying feedback to future assignments

Minimum Qualifications 0-2+ years of experience

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver deliverables with quality
  • Works independently, within the team and across various teams in a fast-paced environment to drive business results, employing creative thinking, and the ability to work on competing priorities
  • Learns how to break-down problems into components, and solve using data analysis, process, risk control knowledge, and experience to drive risk-based conclusions and decisions
  • Develops knowledge and experience in applying control theory and professional auditing practices throughout the audit lifecycle
  • Develops understanding of regulations, regulatory risks, accounting, and financial industry best practices, including technology and data implications
  • Advanced experience in Excel, creating complex formulas and working with large data sets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior audit experience, either internal or external
  • Prior experience with resource planning and capacity management
  • Experience with data analytic tools, data visualization, key risk indicators (KRIs), key performance indicators (KPIs), information systems / technology, and scorecards / dashboards, etc.
  • Interest in working with data, interpreting results, analytic best practices and experience with data analytics tools and data visualization
