Job Description

For nearly 50 years, Bet Tzedek has been committed to providing free legal services to those who need them most. In that tradition, Bet Tzedek is seeking a determined, organized and zealous advocate to provide education and representation, meeting children where they are – at school. This role will serve in Bet Tzedek’s Partnership with LA Unified School District (LAUSD). The underlying mission of this position is to continue to develop our budding partnership with the LAUSD as a means of ensuring that undocumented children have access to justice and representation in their immigration matters.

This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation. While the primary workplace is Bet Tzedek’s offices, at the discretion of the immediate supervisor, the employee may be permitted to work remotely or may be required to work in other locations depending on workload/business obligations.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

· Maintain a regular physical presence on select LAUSD campuses.

· Grow school community members’ awareness of on-campus legal services resources.

· Provide education through presentations and workshops on legal rights & options for caregivers, with special focus on intergenerational & elder caregivers.

· Provide caregivers with legal representation in Probate Guardianship matters.

· Represent undocumented minors in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and other forms of humanitarian relief, which may include conducting new client intake, preparing cases for pro bono placement, and/or providing full scope representation.

· Advocate on behalf of minors eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status in removal proceedings, adjustment of status, asylum relief, U-visas, and T-visas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Active member of California State Bar in good standing (required).

· Willingness to train and work with volunteers, law clerks, and pro bono counsel (required).

· Fluency in written and spoken Spanish (required).

· Minimum one-year non-profit legal services experience (preferred).

· Experience working directly with school-age children and families (highly desired).

· Candidates should be able to articulate their interest in assisting people of diverse ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, religions, immigration status, physical abilities, and ages with varying English-speaking abilities.

Salary

$75,395-$85,281.96 (DOE/DOQ)
