Arcadis is seeking a mid-level staff Archaeologist to join our growing Cultural Resources group in Atlanta, GA. Our team is known for innovation and outstanding customer service and will continue to build on these values.

This is a remote position, but you must be physically located in the state of Georgia.

This role will require the ability to travel up to 30%.

As a mid-level Archaeologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project issues. You will be a key cultural resource team member who interacts with project and program managers, and you will work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will also provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to junior-level staff, when appropriate.

Role accountabilities:

  • The more technical aspects of your role will be serving as a field technician in Georgia. Other states may include South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana.
  • You will be working on multiple projects including all levels of investigation (Phase I, II, III).
  • You will need to conduct field assessments related to archaeological projects. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct shovel test surveys for long hours, as well as carrying supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • You will use your technical writing and communications skills to contribute to cultural resources technical reports and other project-related documents.
  • For this position, you will apply your knowledge and experience on transportation and infrastructure projects and will be responsible for preparation of environmental documents in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
  • You will conduct archaeological field work for multiple projects and at all levels of investigation, from site identification to data recovery, and archaeological monitoring.
  • You will work on projects that require shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, and site documentation.
  • In this role, you will also be responsible for preparing technical reports and documents.
  • The position requires someone with knowledge and experience working in Georgia at a federal and state level.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

You must meet the following requirements to apply:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in cultural resources management, with a combination of field- and office-based experience and roles.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company policy. Position will require use of a company vehicle.

Key Attributes:

  • General understanding of the following industries is preferred: transportation (highways and rail), state and local governments, and/or regulatory/compliance, including familiarity with reading transportation engineering plans.
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management practices in the Southeast and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • Demonstrated technical writing abilities
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data
  • Must be physically able to walk and conduct shovel test surveys for long hours, carrying supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology preferred
  • Experience with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) including Project Plan Development, Environmental Guidebooks, and Cultural Resources Manual is preferred
  • Experience in historic and pre-contact artifact analysis/laboratory experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology preferred
  • Experience with Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) including Project Plan Development, Environmental Guidebooks, and Cultural Resources Manual is preferred

The salary range for this position is $83600 - $104500 Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
