This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the architecture and evolution of a modern, API-first platform operating at enterprise scale. The role combines strategic technical leadership with hands-on engineering, focusing on building robust application layers that power complex data-driven products. You will define engineering standards, influence platform direction, and collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver scalable and intuitive user experiences. Working across frontend, backend, and integration domains, you will tackle challenging problems related to performance, reliability, real-time workflows, and AI-powered capabilities. Accountabilities:
- Lead the architectural vision and technical strategy for the application layer, defining scalable patterns and engineering standards for future growth.
- Design and build enterprise-grade full-stack systems that support complex workflows, external integrations, and high-volume data operations.
- Define API contracts, versioning strategies, resource models, and developer experience standards for both internal and external consumers.
- Architect frontend systems that balance maintainability, scalability, and performance through robust component design, state management strategies, and reusable frameworks.
- Develop application patterns for asynchronous and long-running processes, including real-time updates, optimistic interfaces, and responsive user experiences.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions and roadmap initiatives.
- Drive application performance optimization through effective caching strategies, pagination models, observability practices, and system reliability improvements.
- Lead the integration of AI-powered capabilities into products, defining user experiences, monitoring frameworks, latency management approaches, and fallback mechanisms.
- Establish engineering best practices through design reviews, documentation, mentorship, and technical leadership across teams.
- Contribute to architectural decisions regarding service boundaries, microservices evolution, security, compliance, and enterprise platform scalability.
- Mentor engineers, promote engineering excellence, and foster a collaborative and high-performance technical culture.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building production-grade full-stack applications, with demonstrated impact in Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Technical Lead roles.
- Proven track record of defining technical strategy and delivering architectural solutions adopted across engineering teams.
- Deep backend expertise in Java or comparable strongly typed languages, including service design, API architecture, reliability engineering, and performance optimization.
- Strong frontend engineering experience with React and TypeScript, including component systems, state management, build tooling, and modern rendering strategies.
- Extensive experience designing and maintaining external-facing APIs with a strong understanding of versioning, backward compatibility, error handling, and developer experience.
- Solid understanding of REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, and architectural trade-offs between communication paradigms.
- Experience building enterprise B2B platforms, including multi-tenancy, role-based access controls, audit capabilities, and data privacy considerations.
- Strong knowledge of microservices, service-oriented architecture principles, and application-layer integration patterns.
- Expertise in application performance, caching strategies, observability, distributed tracing, structured logging, and user experience metrics.
- Experience integrating AI and large language model capabilities into production applications, including streaming interfaces, evaluation frameworks, and reliability considerations.
- Familiarity with modern cloud-native environments, containerization technologies, CI/CD pipelines, and distributed systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven mentorship experience and a track record of elevating engineering practices through coaching, reviews, and technical guidance.
- Experience with healthcare data standards, design systems, accessibility, feature flagging, or cost optimization strategies is considered an advantage.
