As a member of the Controller’s Office team, the Staff Accountant reports to the Controller and is responsible for maintaining and monitoring general ledger activities as well as reconciling general ledger accounts primarily in the areas of fixed assets, deferred revenue, agency accounts, and other liabilities. Other accounting areas may be assigned as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Balance assigned general ledger accounts; verifies, allocates, posts, reconciles transactions; researches and resolves discrepancies;
Prepare reconciling entries and year-end closing entries;
Ensure additions to capital projects are in line with Simmons policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles;
Monitor debt lending platform; ensure accurate recording of bond interest; reconcile balance sheet account
Coordinate monthly and quarterly meetings with facilities, technology, and other departments to ensure proper accounting for their capital purchases;
Calculate revenue deferral schedules based on term dates and post journal entries;
Assist Senior Accountant and Controller with preparation and coordination for annual external audit, compile and provides data for auditors;
Assist members of the community as the first resource for accounting and reclassification-related concerns and requests;
Prepare ad-hoc reporting and analysis as required;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in accounting required;
1-3 years of related professional or internship experience preferred;
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles, e.g., T-accounting with debits and credits;
Excellent organizational and time management skills, e.g., managing multiple deadlines monthly;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently;
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and good recordkeeping, i.e., keeping and storing consistent records of activity;
Clear and effective written and oral communication skills;
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, e.g., Lookup formulas, pivot tables;
Experience with Workday is a plus
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Workday experience preferred
Higher education experience is preferred
Prior experience in Public Accounting and CPA license, while not required, strongly preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a part-time, 32 hours a week position
This position has hybrid eligibility, with up to 2-3 days remote; open to fully remote options if not local to the Boston area

Frequent sitting for long periods; occasional kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, walking and standing; occasional reaching above and below desk level
Frequent lifting/carrying of papers, files, equipment, and material weighing up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds

S07$51,800.00 - $82,700.00
