We are seeking a qualified and experienced Staff Accountant to partner with the Accounting Manager and work closely with program leaders and staff to provide guidance on finance and accounting procedures while identifying ways the Accounting team can better support program operations. Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant manages grants administration, accounting and financial analysis, financial and project reporting, shared cost allocations, financial records, and budget development. In this role, the Staff Accountant collaborates with AP, Payroll, Billing, HR, and Program Management to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting while supporting Finance Department goals and complying with organizational policies, Uniform Guidance, funding agency requirements, and contract terms. Schedule: Full-Time What You’ll Do Key Responsibilities Manage post-award grant and contract activities, including budget and expense analysis, invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution updates, reconciliations, and re-budgeting Communicate with funding agencies and fiscal contacts to resolve issues and obtain required information Complete grant closeouts, including reconciliations, final invoices, financial reports, purchase order liquidations, and budget closeout Prepare agency-specific invoices, budgets, budget revisions, project cost reports, and detailed financial reports Coordinate timely submission of invoices, reports, and required financial documentation to funding agencies Assist Program Managers and Directors with proper and effective use of grant funds in accordance with award terms Partner with Payroll and Accounting staff to ensure AP and payroll transactions are accurately posted and properly allocated Coordinate and resolve accounting and grant-related issues with internal teams, Program Management, funding agencies, and grantors Reconcile financial records, analyze variances, resolve discrepancies, and ensure supporting adjustments are properly documented Develop cost projections, recommend adjustments, and support financial monitoring and internal controls Collaborate with Finance team members to improve processes, apply best practices, and support organizational goals Assist with funding agency, internal, and external audits by preparing documentation and supporting audit activities Monitor AR payments, ensure proper application of funds, and follow up with grantors on outstanding balances Identify potential cost overruns and under expenditures and work with Program Managers on corrective actions and spending plans Maintain clear communication and documentation across departments and support a positive, collaborative work environment Monitor staff time charged to grants and review and approve grant-related payroll activity Coordinate with Payroll to ensure accurate processing and posting of grant payroll and prepare adjusting journal entries as needed Analyze complex accounting issues and complete assigned accounting projects Prepare monthly accrual journal entries in accordance with GAAP and FQHC requirements Reconcile grant revenue and receivable accounts and investigate assigned general ledger variances Assist the Accounting Manager and CFO with month-end close, grant budgets, financial statements, and monthly reporting What We Are Looking For Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 2–3 years of experience with nonprofits, government grants, or complex contracts Cost, project, program, grant accounting, or contract compliance experience preferred HRSA, LA County Public Health, DHS, Medicare, or Medi-Cal experience preferred Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT experience preferred Dashboard development experience preferred Additional Skills and Attributes Ability to learn and apply federal, state, local, agency, and organization's regulations and policies Strong knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance, GAAP, and FQHC requirements highly preferred Ability to streamline processes, automate procedures, and resolve accounting issues Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas, highly preferred Ability to interpret and communicate financial regulations and guidelines Ability to independently perform accounting analysis with minimal supervision Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities, changing deadlines, and complex tasks Strong relationship management and professional service skills Ability to navigate organizational processes and work effectively across teams Working Requirements Ability to sit, turn, twist, reach, speak, hear, see, communicate clearly, and use hands and arms for extended periods Ability to work productively in a shared office environment Ability to work at a computer for extended periods Ability to travel to clinic and meeting sites within the service area Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions What You Can Expect Compensation and Benefits: Competitive Salary Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance Holiday Vacation and Sick Leave Employee Assistance Program Life Insurance (Basic + Voluntary) Tuition Reimbursement 403(b) Retirement plan with 6% match If you are a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong grant and financial management experience who thrives on accuracy, collaboration, and accountability, we invite you to apply and contribute your expertise to a mission-driven healthcare organization.
