Who We Are

As science and technology increasingly shape our lives, the Museum of Science strives to equip and inspire everyone to use science for the global good while keeping up with the pace of change. Among the world’s largest science centers and New England’s most attended cultural institution, we engage nearly five million people a year – at Science Park and in museums around the world, in classrooms, and online.

The Museum’s singular location connecting Boston and Cambridge puts us at the junction of some of the world’s most influential academic institutions and industries, local and state government, schools, and the public. Trusted by each sector, we are ideally positioned to convene, inspire, and create meaningful experiences for all. Come join us on our mission to inspire a lifelong love of science in everyone and living our vision for a world where science belongs to each of us for the good of all of us.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Get to know the team as well as the systems currently in place for recording and reconciling bank activity. Once fully onboarded, the role will transition to identifying and implementing any opportunities to increase efficiency and streamline operations.
  • Review monthly bank activity following proper internal control procedures to record and report accurate cash flows and assets in general ledger as well as manage abandoned property procedures for outstanding checks issued to vendors and employees.
  • Reconcile and analyze monthly general ledger accounts in Financial Edge to ensure transactions are accurate and properly recorded and to ensure the accuracy and completeness of bank statement data on the Museum’s books. Submit reconciliations for monthly review by Manager.
  • Assist the Controller and Manager in the annual financial statement audit in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles to ensure accuracy of statements for use by the management, trustees, and outside agencies.
  • Engage in cross training within department and act as primary backup to functions assigned by Manager.

What We’re Looking For (Competencies)

  • Technical skills: This role will require you to be familiar with US GAAP guidelines and regulations but also be systems savvy including presenting a proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting software packages.
  • Growth Mindset: This role will require you to be curious about ways to improve our current systems and procedures. We are looking for someone who enjoys the process of getting better at what you do and seeking out the feedback that improves your ability to learn from your experiences.
  • Attention to detail This role will require you to manage a lot of daily data required to accurately report our financial activity to the Museum. We are looking for someone who does not let important details slip through the cracks and lives up to the daily, weekly, monthly and annual commitments required to provide accurate financial reporting.

How We Work-Our Values

Mission-Focused: We inspire a lifelong love of science in everyone.

Audience-Driven: Everything we do begins with the people we serve.
