Job Description

If you are the one who wants to become familiar with/get an introduction to the regulatory banking environment and likes to learn how ING Financial Risk manages its policies to stay compliant to the current regulatory banking framework, mostly defined by the ECB (European Central Bank) and the European Commission (EC). Then this is for you!

You will be participating in the activities of the FR Policies Team for 4-6 months.

The Team

The Financial Risk department is a Tier 2 Function to set and control the financial risk strategy across the organization. The FR Policies Team is part of the Frameworks and Controls Department in Financial Risk. The FR Policies Chapter provides strategic guidance on financial risk and regulations for banking book (e.g. IRRBB, CSRBB and equity risk) and trading book risk, counterparty credit risk and other (financial) balance sheet risks. More concretely, the responsibilities of the PR Policies Team include:

  • writing, coordinating and updating financial risk policies in line with regulations and/or internal guidelines;

  • building and maintaining relationships with regulators, supervisors, industry associations and internal stakeholders;

  • actively contributing to shaping new regulations (e.g. by participating in BCBS consultations);

  • communicating financial risk policies and regulations throughout the organization;

  • providing guidance and advice to internal stakeholders;

  • coordinating financial risk related supervisory on-site visits and requests for information in alignment with the Regulations & International Affairs department.

The FR Policies Team consists of 8 people and has a global scope. Report to the Chapter Lead of the FR Policies team in the Financial Risk Frameworks and Controls Department (which is one of the five Departments in Financial Risk).

Roles and responsibilities

Your activities could consist of:

  • Assessing and giving advice on new and current regulations that are relevant for Financial Risk.

  • Stakeholder management around the Financial Risk Policy House and possibly being contact for external locations on the implementation of ING Financial Risk Policy House.

  • Giving second opinions on the regulatory treatment for proposals by the Business (e.g. new lending products or derivatives constructions).

  • Participate in supervisory requests by the JST and/or remedial actions for on-sites.

  • Take the lead in the revision of Policy House Internal Control Documents (on for example banking book and trading book risk, counterparty credit risk, valuation risk and funding and liquidity risk).

  • Become familiar with ING’s Major Counterparty Default Procedure and participate in the ING’s dry-run.

  • Preparing Policy House overviews and regulatory updates for higher management and internal reporting.

  • Participating in Banking Association calls and Public Hearings by supervisory authorities (e.g. EBA).

  • Implementation of INGs Internal Control Binding Standards into the Policy House.

  • Management of the Financial Risk Policy House and the corresponding internal policy database (i.e. iRisk) to safeguard quality assurance for ING’s policies for Financial Risk.

  • Currently working in ING in Financial Markets, GT, Risk, Finance or Legal (or closely related job activities to these Departments)

  • Interested in financial risk, the prudential regulatory environment and familiar with the basic financial risk and banking concepts.

  • Good presentation skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines (i.e. multitasking)

  • Excellent skills in MS Office and managing data overviews.

  • Solid analytical skills, with the ability to think broadly but also with attention to detail.

  • Focused, self-driven and results oriented.

  • Solid writing and communication skills in English.

  • Flexible team player, in line with ING’s Orange Code ( you help each other to be successful).
