Parenting Services /Medical Assistant will be focused on providing education in parenting services to expecting parents and new parents. The successful candidate will provide personalized care and deliver medical services that uphold program policies and procedures; in accordance with licensure, children’s rights, medical concerns, and age-appropriate environment in place.
Parenting Services /Medical Assistant will work closely with the registered nurse to ensure the well-being of all minors in care, with medical providers, and other members of the team.  Parenting Services /Medical Assistant will set medical appointments with obstetrician and other specialties according with the referrals, escort, transport, assist, and advocate for the pregnant teens.
The candidate will provide transportation, medication log, monitoring Medication Administration Records (MAR / Prescription and Over the Counter Medication), reporting and writing SIRs according with the current policies, requesting TARs, and others related with medical. Parenting Services /Medical Assistant participates in quality activities through active contribution in Treatment Plan Meetings, departmental meetings, program meetings, and required ongoing training. This position is carried out in designated shelter locations, school, and group home settings.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Create an educational plan to facilitate classes for expecting parents and teen parents UCs.
Establish a trusting and professional relationship with pregnant UCs and teen mothers with newborns, infants, and/or toddlers needing pregnancy and parenting classes.
Educate clients in life skills in both English and Spanish to pregnant and teen mothers. Classes are based on approved curriculum content and materials which may be ready to present or may require additional development, such as updates and/or tailoring for specialized client needs.
Escort the clients during the labor and delivery at the facility/hospital where and transports teen mother/child for pediatrician follow-ups. Always ensure the safety and security of all clients in their care.
Provide quality care and supervision to clients in accordance with ORR and TDFPS rules, program philosophy and procedure and client’s rights.
Maintain ratio and close supervision through all activities.
Must report immediately to the supervisor any doubts, questions, medical concerns, or procedure regarding client’s health.
Ensure client’s information and medical files for are safe and kept confidential. Effectively communicate information pertaining to the health clients according to the program policies and procedures to ensure quality services and client safety.
Adjust work to the plans and programs that the Registered Nurse implements.
Maintain accurate and update documentation regarding biographical data, admission assessment, medical progress notes, Medication List, Medication Log, MARs, TARs, Sickness/Allergy Forms, Medical instructions/recommendations, medical summaries, Safety plans, SIRs, IRs, and other as needed.
Keep ongoing training to compliance with the annual training in accordance with state regulations, Office of Refugee and Resettlement, and both Catholic Charities and St. Michael’s Home for Children requirements.  Besides, take online trainings as needed to renew the certifications needed.
Assist in the development, oversight, or provision of medical services for clients in care as approved by your supervisor for safety and licensure compliance.
Look for assistance or advice from direct supervisor if any doubts or questions before performing an assigned task.
Attending approved and required professional development opportunities. Maintains all licenses, certificates, and/or training as required by funders, program, and/or agency.
Maintain client electronic records in compliance with agency policies and procedures, and all applicable legal requirements, including HIPAA.
Enters all applicable client information into the agency's database in a timely and accurate manner.
Prepares and submits all required administrative reports and documentation within given deadlines without compromising quality.
Participates in and is responsive to quality and compliance activities, including the agency's record review and qualitative review process, as well as incident reporting practices.
Perform other duties as assigned train such as participating in staff retreats, United Way tours, agency and community fairs and speaking engagements, assisting with special organizational projects/events, to promote agency programs.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field
One (1) year of experience in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care  setting.
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Valid Texas Driver’s License
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Proficient typing/keyboarding skills and computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and power point.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work and function well in a diverse and multidisciplinary environment.
Capacity to and adjust/adapt to flexible schedules, prioritize activities, responsibilities, and work within fast- paced environment.
Knowledge of essential medical terminology and understanding basic health attention like, vital sign measuring, blood sugar monitoring, and Weight/height measure; as well, performance hearing and vision screening.
Ability to adapt to changing work requirements and varying volumes of work under pressure.
Knowledgeable of HIPAA, state and federal regulations governing confidentiality and release of information.
Support and train team members under Registered Nurse supervision and guidance.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding about boundaries with kids, staff and volunteers
