Job Description

Be a part of a transformational journey with innovative talent and leading edge technologies

Our team and what we'll accomplish together

Join us as we revolutionize how TELUS manages its network—shifting from reactive firefighting to intelligent, predictive operations that eliminate disruptions before customers ever notice them. As Technical Manager of our Automation by Design team, you'll build the future of network reliability through cutting-edge Service Reliability Engineering practices and AI-enabled automation. Your influence will directly impact how TELUS manages its most critical infrastructure, making this a truly transformational opportunity for someone passionate about automation and building systems that work reliably at scale.

What you'll do

  • Guide the establishment and operationalization of SRE practices and discipline within TELUS, defining team mandate, processes, and standards that align with industry best practices
  • Facilitate cross-functional conversations with technical and business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities, align on priorities, and drive transformational change that reduces manual work and improves efficiency
  • Develop and deploy automation solutions and infrastructure-as-code capabilities that enhance reliability and enable teams to shift from reactive to proactive operations
  • Coach and develop your team of Engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration while building psychological safety to question conventional thinking

What you bring

  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience managing engineering teams in reliability, operations, infrastructure, or similar roles
  • Deep expertise in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and methodologies, with proven experience implementing or scaling SRE transformations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence and collaborate across technical and business teams
  • Strong background in automation and infrastructure-as-code, with hands-on experience designing and deploying automation solutions at scale
  • Demonstrated experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and driving operational excellence initiatives
  • Understanding of AI/ML applications in operations and experience evaluating or implementing intelligent automation and predictive systems
  • Experience in telecommunications, network operations, or large-scale distributed systems
  • Proficiency with monitoring, observability, and alerting platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, PagerDuty, Grafana, or similar tools)

Great-to-haves

  • Continuous learner with curiosity about emerging technologies
  • Track record of building high-performing, innovative teams in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks and their applications in operations and automation
  • Experience leading digital transformation or operational modernization initiatives in large organizations

Advanced knowledge of English is required because you will most of the time interact in English with external parties (clients, suppliers, candidates, external partners, etc.); interact in English with internal parties (colleagues, internal partners, stakeholders, etc.); and work with IT tools whose interface is only accessible in English as part of this position's main responsibilities given its national scope. # LI-Remote
