Senior Transmission Planning Engineer

Location(s)

  • Remote, United States
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation

  • Base salary commensurate with experience.
  • Annual bonus based on individual performance and overall business success.

Position Summary

The Senior Transmission Planning Engineer performs detailed transmission system modeling and power flow studies to support the development and acquisition of battery energy storage, renewable, and hybrid energy projects. This role evaluates interconnection risks, costs, and project feasibility, develops technical recommendations, and communicates study results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job Function

  • Provide transmission analytical support and insights for a growing portfolio of battery energy storage system (BESS), renewable, and hybrid projects.
  • Perform power flow analysis to evaluate the potential risks and costs of interconnecting new generation to the transmission system.
  • Assess the technical and commercial feasibility of greenfield development opportunities and project acquisitions.
  • Develop planning-level cost estimates for interconnection facilities.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, presentations, and other materials that communicate technical results to technical and non-technical team members.
  • Research, develop, and create power flow models, validate data, and model proposed projects.
  • Develop and streamline processes and automation to support efficient workflows.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; advanced degrees receive additional consideration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with transmission planning, power flow analysis, or related work.
  • Proficiency with at least one power flow software platform, including TARA, PSS®E, or PSLF.
  • Hands-on modeling experience in at least one electric market, such as CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, or NYISO.
  • Prior generation development and/or consulting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of NERC planning standards.
  • Experience with Python, Java, or similar programming languages is desired.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as ArcGIS or Power BI, is desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight timelines and deadlines.
