deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Sr. System Safety Engineer in Huntsville, AL.

deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Senior System Safety Engineer to support the SHIELD Project Office. The candidate will directly work with program directors and product managers to ensure system safety through rigorous engineering methods and technical expertise. Candidate will support multidisciplinary Integrated Product Teams to develop solutions that support developmental, test, and operational goals.

Candidates should be self-motivated, possess strong written and verbal communications skills, and support or lead the following events:

  • System safety engineering activities across all phases of missile system development, integration, test, production,, and fielding.
  • Hazard analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-882E and other applicable DoD and Army safety standards.
  • Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Safety Verification Plans, and Risk Acceptance documentation.
  • Collaborate with design, test, and integration teams to embed safety requirements into system architecture and operational concepts.
  • Safety Release processes for test events, including live-fire and flight testing.
  • Interface with Army safety boards, review panels, and Joint Weapon Safety Working Groups.
  • Root cause analysis and corrective action planning for safety-related incidents or anomalies.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor in a STEM field and degree plus 16 years of experience. A Master's degree may substitute for two years' experience.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with hazard analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E and other applicable DoD and Army safety standards.
  • Developing and maintaining Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Safety Verification Plans, and Risk Acceptance documents.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Safety Release processes for test events, including live-fire and flight testing.
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective action planning for safety-related incidents or anomalies.

Special Skills Desired:

  • Demonstrated ability to influence system design through safety insight, including identifying non-obvious or cross-domain hazard.
  • Hands-on involvement in flight test or range safety, translating analysis into practical constraints and execution decisions.
  • Experience integrating safety into model-based or digital engineering environments, including improving traceability or analysis efficiency.
