About This Role
Carrier is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sr Supplier Quality Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and continuous improvement of supplier performance across the supply base. This role partners closely with Sourcing, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and suppliers to drive defect reduction, improve supplier capability, and ensure uninterrupted material flow to manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will lead supplier quality initiatives from new product introduction through production, utilizing advanced quality tools, data-driven problem solving, and Lean methodologies to improve supplier performance and support Carrier Excellence (Cx) objectives.
Supplier Quality Management
Own supplier quality performance for an assigned commodity or supplier portfolio.
Monitor supplier performance using key metrics including PPM, on-time corrective actions, cost of poor quality (COPQ), and supplier scorecards.
Lead supplier business reviews to communicate performance expectations and drive continuous improvement.
Develop supplier improvement plans for underperforming suppliers.
Advanced Problem Solving
Lead containment activities for supplier quality issues impacting production or customers.
Conduct root cause analysis using structured methodologies including: 8D A3 5 Why Fishbone Fault Tree Analysis
Verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
Supplier Development
Perform supplier process audits using VDA 6.3, ISO 9001, or Carrier supplier audit standards.
Assess manufacturing capability and process controls.
Coach suppliers on Lean manufacturing, mistake-proofing, statistical process control (SPC), and process capability improvement.
Support supplier readiness for production launches and engineering changes.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Partner with Product Engineering and Sourcing during supplier selection.
Review supplier APQP deliverables including: Process Flow Diagrams PFMEA Control Plans MSA Capability Studies PPAP submissions
Approve production readiness prior to launch.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Materials, Procurement, and Design Engineering to resolve supplier-related issues.
Support cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality standards.
Drive risk mitigation activities across the supply chain.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to reduce supplier defects, improve process capability, and increase manufacturing reliability.
Lead Kaizen events and Lean initiatives with suppliers.
Utilize quality data analytics to identify trends and prioritize improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology
5+ years of manufacturing, supplier quality, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
Experience working directly with suppliers in a manufacturing environment
Experience performing Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) evaluations
