Job Description
Kim-Tam Logistics US, a division of Samuel, Son & Co., is seeking an experienced Sr. Specialist, Safety, Compliance, and Fleet Services to lead all aspects of transportation safety, regulatory compliance, fleet maintenance oversight, and driver qualification programs across multiple US locations. This role is critical to maintaining our strong culture of safety, ensuring compliance with federal and state transportation regulations, protecting company assets, and supporting operational excellence.
The successful candidate will bring strong trucking and transportation industry expertise, the ability to "speak the language" of drivers and transportation professionals, and a balanced leadership style that combines accountability, coaching, positive reinforcement, and professionalism. The role partners closely with Operations, Human Resources, the US Service Centre Safety & Compliance Manager, and the corporate EHS team across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety, Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Maintain driver qualification files, compliance records, audits, and reporting for U.S. operations across multiple locations.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and transportation regulations.
- Administer driver qualification, medical certification, and drug & alcohol testing programs in partnership with HR, operations, and healthcare providers.
- Manage safety ratings, CSA scores, permits, licenses, registrations, and regulatory filings to maintain compliance.
- Oversee transportation licensing and compliance programs (FMCSA, UCR, IFTA, NYHUT, E-ZPass, fuel cards, and state-specific requirements).
- Maintain audit-ready safety, compliance, maintenance, and training documentation while supporting corporate reporting and safety initiatives.
Fleet Maintenance & Equipment Management
- Oversee fleet maintenance programs to ensure equipment safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Support equipment procurement, specifications, leasing, lifecycle planning, and replacement strategies.
- Approve invoices, issue purchase orders, and maintain equipment records and compliance documentation.
- Ensure compliance with jurisdictional equipment requirements, including emissions regulations where applicable.
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate maintenance, repairs, ELD systems, and onboard camera installations.
Driver Safety, Training & Performance
- Coordinate driver onboarding, orientation, qualification, road testing, and compliance training with HR and Operations.
- Conduct driver coaching, performance evaluations, remedial training, and safety assessments.
- Promote a positive safety culture through communication, recognition, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead monthly safety meetings, safety talks, and training sessions across all operating locations.
- Provide responsive safety support outside regular business hours as operational needs require.
Incident, Claims & Risk Management
- Lead investigations of accidents, injuries, incidents, and regulatory violations, ensuring timely reporting and documentation.
- Develop and implement accident prevention, corrective action, and risk reduction programs.
- Manage relationships with insurance providers and oversee workers' compensation, liability claims, regulatory inquiries, and related legal matters.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the Safety Department, Operations, Human Resources, and Corporate EHS to ensure consistent application of safety policies, compliance standards, and best practices.
- Support recruitment through timely review of candidate qualifications, background checks, and hiring recommendations.
- Assist with progressive discipline and corrective action processes while supporting ongoing operational and compliance initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education, college diploma, or degree in a related field and/or a minimum of five (5) years of progressive safety experience that includes safety management within an asset-based transportation environment (tractors and/or trailers).
- Demonstrated experience within the trucking, transportation, logistics, or fleet operations.
- Strong working knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, and related transportation compliance requirements across the United States (California, Ohio, Tennessee, New York).
- Proven leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Experience managing multi-site transportation operations and state-specific compliance requirements.
- Experience managing a fleet maintenance program.
- Experience managing ELD systems and transportation technology platforms.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, investigation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with drivers, operations teams, regulatory agencies, and leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to balance accountability with a positive, professional, and collaborative leadership approach.
The base salary range for this position is $82,240 - $102,800 per year (USD). The posted range reflects the expected base salary for this position. Actual base salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience, as well as internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made within the range and not at the top of the range to support growth and progression. This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive plan. Incentive awards, if any, are based on business and individual performance and are not guaranteed.
