Job Description
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Developer Experience & Architecture team. The team builds shared platforms, frameworks, tooling, and engineering standards that help product teams develop and operate services securely, reliably, and efficiently. In this role, you will be a senior individual contributor and technical leader working on foundational systems across the organization, including our federated GraphQL platform, gateways, shared libraries, developer tooling, authentication and authorization capabilities, and platform observability. Our Platform Graph is a key entry point to services supporting millions of customers worldwide as well as internal applications and business users. You will help evolve this platform as new products, markets, and technical requirements emerge. This is a high-leverage platform role: the goal is to solve common engineering problems once, at the platform layer, and provide paved roads that make secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions easier for teams to adopt.
What You'll Do
- Evolve our federated GraphQL platform and shared infrastructure for reliability, scalability, security, and developer usability.
- Build reusable libraries, frameworks, and developer tooling that reduce duplicated engineering effort across teams.
- Design and improve authentication, authorization, and API access capabilities for applications and services.
- Operate and improve critical platform services, including performance, observability, reliability, and production troubleshooting.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to turn recurring needs into scalable platform capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, engineering standards, and mentorship.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating production distributed systems.
- Experience acting as a senior individual contributor or technical lead, owning system design and guiding engineering decisions.
- Strong proficiency with GraphQL, including federated GraphQL architectures.
- Strong proficiency with Go and experience building production services with attention to performance and resource efficiency.
- Professional experience with Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Strong understanding of authentication and authorization, including OAuth/OIDC, service authentication, RBAC, and relationship-based authorization.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, networking, service reliability, and production operations.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience profiling and optimizing services for latency, throughput, CPU, and memory utilization.
- Strong understanding of observability, including metrics, tracing, logging, and production debugging.
- Strong software design skills, including domain-driven design principles.
- Ability to work from high-level requirements and independently drive complex technical initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GraphQL schema registries or control planes such as Apollo GraphOS, Hive or Wundergraph
- Experience building authorization platforms, policy engines, or similar security infrastructure.
- Experience developing shared SDKs, frameworks, or internal developer platforms.
- Experience with Rust or another systems-oriented programming language.
- Strong understanding of language runtimes, concurrency, memory management, and networking.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry or similar observability standards.
- Experience with multi-tenant or multi-brand platform architectures.
- Background in restaurant technology, point-of-sale systems, retail operations, or large-scale digital commerce.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role extends beyond the code you personally ship. It is reflected in the capabilities you enable across engineering.
- Common platform problems are solved once rather than independently by each team.
- Product teams can integrate with shared platform capabilities with less bespoke engineering.
- Platform services remain secure, reliable, performant, and easy to operate as usage grows.
- Developers have clear standards, tooling, and paved roads for building on the platform.
- Technical decisions improve long-term platform maintainability without unnecessarily slowing product delivery.
Salary Range: $131,100 to $164,300 annually + bonus eligibility. This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.
