About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and scale internal applications that support complex subrogation and claim recovery workflows.

This role goes beyond traditional software engineering. It focuses on AI-enabled development, workflow automation, and data-driven system design. You will play a key role in improving how applications are built and how business processes are translated into scalable, efficient systems.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who leverages AI to accelerate delivery, improve quality, and reduce manual effort — while working closely with business teams to ensure systems reflect real-world operations.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development & System Design

  • Design, build, and maintain applications supporting claim recovery and healthcare-related workflows
  • Translate complex business processes into scalable, maintainable, and efficient system functionality
  • Implement solutions involving financial logic, including balances, allocations, and reconciliation
  • Ensure code is production-ready, well-tested, and complete prior to QA

AI-Enabled Development & Automation

  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., GPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) to:
    • Accelerate code development and refactoring
    • Assist with debugging and root cause analysis
    • Generate tests, documentation, and validation logic
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate repetitive development and operational workflows
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new AI tools to improve engineering efficiency

Data Engineering & Performance Optimization

  • Work extensively with relational databases and large datasets
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformations
  • Ensure data integrity, reconciliation accuracy, and system performance at scale
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies across systems

Integration & Workflow Systems

  • Build and maintain integrations across internal and external systems via APIs and data pipelines
  • Design systems that support multi-step workflows and conditional business logic
  • Ensure reliable data flow, error handling, and system resiliency

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with Operations and business stakeholders to align systems with real-world workflows
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical decision-making
  • Mentor developers and contribute to improving team standards and delivery practices
  • Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and first-time-right delivery

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver production-grade applications in data-driven environments
  • Strong experience with:
    • Backend development (Java, Python, or similar)
    • Relational databases and advanced SQL
  • Experience building systems that handle:
    • Complex workflows
    • Financial or transactional logic
    • Data reconciliation across systems
  • Proven use of AI tools within the development lifecycle to improve speed, quality, or automation
  • Experience building and consuming APIs in enterprise environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

We value demonstrated capability and real-world impact over years of experience or formal degrees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, claims processing, or financial recovery systems
  • Familiarity with high-volume data processing and structured data formats
  • Experience optimizing system performance in data-intensive environments
  • Exposure to automation tools or scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
  • Experience improving development workflows through automation or AI adoption
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server databases and/or ColdFusion-based applications, or similar technologies, to support faster onboarding and reduced learning curve
  • Experience with subrogation and claim recovery workflows is a strong plus, including familiarity with concepts such as eligibility and coverage verification, identification of third-party liability, lien and recovery processes, payment posting, overpayment identification, and reconciliation of recoveries against claim-level financials.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Sitting at workstation for prolong periods of time. Extensive computer work. Workstation may be exposed to overhead fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Fast paced work environment. Operates office equipment including personal computer, copiers, and fax machines.
