Your Job

Georgia-Pacific’s Software Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer to help solve environmental and sustainability challenges through modern software engineering, AI, and data-driven decision making.

You will partner with Environmental business leaders, engineers, and compliance teams to take ideas that prove their value and make them systems Georgia-Pacific can operate at scale. You will own architecture, security, and production readiness — designing solutions that are reliable, supportable, and built to grow.

You will work alongside environmental subject matter experts on problems such as permit intelligence, compliance workflows, data quality, environmental reporting, and AI-powered agents — and help take those capabilities from a first working version to enterprise scale.

This role is based at our HQ in Atlanta, GA with an expectation of three (3) days in the office per week.

Our Team

We are software engineers, data practitioners, and business technologists focused on how Environmental capabilities are delivered across Georgia-Pacific.

Through our cobuilder operating model, environmental business partners help create solutions, while engineers provide architecture, governance, and the path to scale. We use AI, cloud, data platforms, and reusable enterprise assets to move faster without giving up cybersecurity, compliance, or architectural integrity. We value ownership, experimentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.

What You Will Do

  • Embed directly with environmental partners to learn real plant conditions and translate ambiguous operational problems into digital solutions
  • Rapidly Co-build with business partners and forward-deployed engineers, and own what happens next — taking solutions that prove their value and making them secure, supported, and production-ready
  • Set the architecture for environmental applications: data boundaries, integration patterns, identity and access, observability, and cost — designed for growth rather than a single use case
  • Design and build production applications with React and .NET that put critical data and workflows in the hands of frontline workers, when and where they need them
  • Apply AI-first engineering across the lifecycle, using GenAI tools responsibly and leveraging judgment, quality controls, and cyber security insights to stand behind AI-generated output
  • Provide feedback and mentorship to less experienced engineers

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Demonstrated experience rapidly prototyping with GenAI and AI-assisted development tools, producing solutions that generated positive business results
  • Proven experience building and supporting production applications with AI capabilities, Python, React, .NET, and relational and non-relational databases (strong SQL proficiency)
  • Proven experience and results from collaborating with non-technical partners to solve business problems
  • Hands-on experience supporting and modifying business-critical applications in production environments
  • Experience querying, analyzing, and manipulating unfamiliar datasets
  • Experience applying Agile principles, DevOps, CI/CD practices, and cloud-based development
  • Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Environmental, sustainability, environmental reporting, environmental management systems, compliance workflows, or regulatory data
  • Experience translating operational problems into digital solutions for frontline workers — mobile-friendly UX and offline or low-connectivity considerations
  • Experience with IIoT and Industry 4.0 concepts and manufacturing data sources
  • Experience with cloud-native design and hybrid (plant plus cloud) architectures
  • Docker or Kubernetes container experience, and DevSecOps experience
