Senior Software Engineer (VP Level)

A global investment manager specializing in alternative investments with over $220B in AUM. The firm emphasizes an opportunistic, value-oriented, and risk-controlled approach across credit, equity, and real estate, with 1,400+ employees in 25+ cities. Seeking a Vice President to join a newly formed Product Engineering group. This is a senior individual contributor role, comparable to a Senior/Staff Engineer, focused on building next-generation platforms for a large, complex credit business. This is a hands-on, code-every-day role building data-intensive, full-stack applications (ingestion, transformation, analytics, and user-facing tools).

You will work directly with business stakeholders (no traditional PM structure), owning delivery from concept through execution. The environment is cloud-based (Azure), leveraging proven architecture and modern technologies, with an emphasis on applying generative AI to enhance development and user outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Build and own platform components end-to-end (data pipelines, services, user applications)
• Design and implement scalable, data-intensive applications and APIs
• Contribute to modernization of architecture and technology stack
• Partner directly with business stakeholders to define and deliver solutions
• Operate as product owner: prioritize, define MVPs, and iterate quickly
• Apply generative AI to improve development and build user-facing capabilities
• Mentor engineers and uphold high standards for code and design
• Implement modern engineering practices (CI/CD, testing, observability)
• Drive data-informed decisions through analytics and experimentation
• Communicate technical trade-offs to business and technical audiences

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building data-intensive systems
• Background as a senior IC or staff/principal engineer in complex environments
• Strong fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, performance)
• Expertise in data pipelines, modeling, and large-scale systems
• Proficiency in Python and one compiled language (C#, Java, C++, Scala, Go)
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and cloud-native architectures
• Ability to work without PMs; strong ownership and prioritization skills
• Strong product mindset connecting engineering to business outcomes
• Experience mentoring and influencing teams
• Excellent communication across technical and business stakeholders

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required
Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred
