About the role
In this role you will serve as a Senior Scientist in theR&D Product Chemistry Groupreporting to the group Director. The purpose of thisR&Dglobal support group is togain insight on how ourproduct chemistrylinks toproduct performanceHere we support our formulation teams in early-stage product development with an eye toward exploiting thechemistry/performancelink towardproduct claims and performance visualizations. Additionally,this product chemistry understanding is used toassist our regulatoryand legalpartnersspeak tothe safety and efficacy of our product
Role Responsibilities
Utilize mass spectrometry andallied techniques (i.e. NMR, IR spectroscopy) to characterizestructure and ascertain interactions of formulation ingredients
Design sample preparation strategiesto isolate analyte of interest frommulti-component dosage formsincluding viscous liquids, gels, ointments, creams and solids
Perform trace analysis using mass spectrometry with various combinations of chromatographyand other hyphenated techniques
Perform routine maintenance on mass spectrometry instruments to ensure consistent performance
Design and execute characterization strategies to support regulatory submissions, patent applications and claims substantiation
Engage in problem solving activities by interpreting data sets from multiple characterization approaches
Justify themeaningofexperimental dataas it applies to product developmentmilestone achievement

Basic Qualifications:
Have a well-rounded understanding of the product development process and be able to apply problem solving methodologies to unexpected technical issues.
Demonstrated experience writing technical reports and communicating technical data to technical and non-technical associates alike.
Have fundamental understanding of molecular structure, kinetics and thermodynamics
Must bemechanically inclined to enable hyphenation of unusual instrumentsequences
Must work as a team member and want to listen and learn
Have the desire to teachjunior level Scientists
Preferred Qualifications:
Should want to work in the laboratoryas a hands-on Scientist
Should embrace unexpected technical issues as ‘innovations in disguise’
Location: This role is based in Richmond, VA with in-office requirements.
