As a Driver Manager in our Terminal Operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and efficiency of our linehaul drivers. You will oversee various aspects of driver management, including safety advocacy, communication, onboarding, certifications, equipment inspections, time & attendance, tractor assignments, payroll, employee conduct, administration, riding with Road Drivers, linehaul plan execution, Road Driver Job Selection, and driver engagement.

Shift: 3:00pm - 1:00am, Monday-Friday

Salary Range: Up to $90,000 + bonus

Key Responsibilities:

  • Road Driver Safety Advocate: Promote a safe work environment through effective communication, training, safety meetings, and awareness programs.
  • Conduct Hours of Service review Road Driver Hours of Service document and ensure compliance with safety guidelines and governmental regulations.
  • Road Driver Recruitment/Retention Review Road Driver hiring needs and assist Human Resources in the placement and retention of Road Drivers.
  • Linehaul Shift execution to plan Regularly review POD driver set up to actual execution to plan to identify gaps for continuous improvement opportunities between Linehaul and dock operations.
  • Road Driver On-Boarding Welcome and orient new drivers, conduct Road Driver training curriculums, and manage ongoing training programs.
  • Road Driver Certifications Ensure drivers obtain and maintain hazmat endorsements, CDL licensing, and DOT physical requirements.
  • Equipment Inspections: Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip assessments, audit DVIR compliance, and ensure tractor cleanliness.
  • Road Driver Time & Attendance Manage PTO requests, ensure accurate scheduling, and handle call-offs.
  • Tractor Assignments Maintain equipment records, track governed units, and ensure key log accuracy.
  • Employee Conduct: Issue Incident Action Reports (IARs) as directed, review IAR requests, and assist with conduct improvement actions.
  • Equipment Administration: Assist with trailer registrations, placards, with a focus on preparations.
  • Ride Along: Conduct monthly rides with drivers to gather feedback and understand their perspective.
  • Road Driver Job Selection: Assist with job selection process communication, answer driver inquiries, and maintain understanding of company programs.
  • Road Driver Engagement: Host events to boost morale and resolve employee concerns.
  • Travel: Visit assigned terminals quarterly to oversee operations and address any issues.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Previous experience in transportation management or related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and transportation management software.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.

Reporting Relationships:

The Driver Manager will report directly to the Terminal Manager and collaborate closely with various departments including Operations, Safety, HR, and Linehaul.

Working Conditions:

This role primarily operates in an freight terminal environment but requires frequent travel to terminals for review of yard and dock operations. Work hours are primarily from 1500 to 0100, Monday to Friday, but can vary based on job demands.
