Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Sr. Project Manager-Genset to join our team. This is a hybrid role based out of our Plano, Texas location.

SCOPE:

The Sr. Project Manager, Genset manages customer-facing gas engine generator set (genset) projects in North America from order intake through engineering, manufacturing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and final handover. A gas engine generator set is a packaged power-generation system that includes a gas engine, generator, controls, and related components used to produce electrical power. This role serves as the primary project interface among customers, consultants, general contractors, EPC contractors, MEP contractors, suppliers, packagers, and internal teams. The Sr. Project Manager manages scope, schedule, budget, risks, change orders, documentation, stakeholder communication, customer expectations, and execution performance to ensure safe, compliant, timely, and profitable project delivery in accordance with applicable U.S. regulatory requirements, including UL, EPA, NFPA, 40 CFR, emissions requirements, and NEC. This role owns project execution from engine supply coordination through module development, integration, testing, and delivery while coordinating across engineering, suppliers, packagers, and customers to achieve cost, schedule, quality, and compliance targets. This position also collaborates with global stakeholders across Japan and the U.S. to align priorities, enable effective execution, and support MHIA’s long-term business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have at least a minimum of nine (9) years of project management or related technical project execution experience, with at least six (6) years in gas engine generator sets, engine packaging, power generation, or related mission-critical infrastructure projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Management & Stakeholder Interface

• Manage end-to-end execution of gas engine set in North America, from order intake through final handover.
• Serve as the primary project interface with customers, consultants, general contractors, EPC contractors, MEP contractors, and internal teams.
• Lead regular project meetings, report project status, escalate critical issues, and drive timely decision-making.
• Ensure customer satisfaction, schedule adherence, quality performance, and successful handover to service and aftermarket teams.
• Maintain and drive project governance: execution plan, cost, schedule, action items, risk register, issue log, change log, communication plan, and decision log

Engineering, Manufacturing & Logistics Coordination

• Manage customer submittal, review, comment resolution, approval, and resubmission processes.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, engineering, quality, logistics, installation, commissioning, service, and aftermarket teams.
• Track equipment production schedules, factory milestones, FAT readiness, shipping readiness, and delivery commitments.
• Coordinate site delivery planning including delivery windows, receiving requirements, unloading plans, laydown/storage needs, and site acceptance conditions.
• Coordinate site access requirements including route constraints, road width, gates, turning radius, ground bearing capacity, crane access, and delivery staging.
• Support installation readiness including site readiness checks, foundation readiness, and utility interface readiness (power, water, refrigerant, drainage, communications).
• Confirm foundation readiness (dimensions, levelness, load rating, anchor locations, grout plan) and utility interface readiness (connection points and readiness for electrical/mechanical/refrigerant/drain/controls).
• Coordinate turnover to commissioning by ensuring installation completion criteria, punch items, documentation readiness, and interface closures are met.

Supplier & Packager Management

• Ensure packagers comply with defined design and technical requirements
• Monitor packager and supplier performance in terms of schedule, quality, and deliverables
• Coordinate packager activities including design, fabrication, assembly, and testing
• Coordinate FAT requirements (factory acceptance tests) and SAT requirements (site acceptance tests), including witness points, acceptance criteria, and test record control.
• Drive corrective actions for delays or non-conformance
• Support commercial and contractual coordination, including scope and responsibility management

Quality, Testing & Compliance

• Coordinate regulatory and certification activities (e.g., (UL, EPA, NFPA, 40 CFR, emission requirement, NEC, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with contractual, safety, and regulatory requirements
• Manage scope changes and change orders in coordination with stakeholders

Site Execution

• Coordinate permit / local permitting (building, electrical, mechanical, fire, environmental) and maintain a permit/inspection readiness plan with responsible stakeholders.
• Coordinate environmental compliance requirements including stormwater/wastewater (construction discharge, blowdown, chemicals, oil-water separation), noise ordinance requirements (boundary/nighttime noise, silencers/acoustics), and SPCC / oil containment (lubricants/fuels and secondary containment).
• Coordinate insurance requirements where applicable (fire protection, separation distances, containment provisions) and integrate them into execution and turnover packages.
• Support commissioning and startup activities by coordinating commissioning requirements, documentation, punch list closure, customer readiness, third-party commissioning agents, and service teams.
• Maintain complete project documentation including contracts, specifications, drawings, submittals, meeting minutes, issue logs, change logs, schedules, inspection records, FAT/SAT records, commissioning documentation, and turnover/closeout packages (O&M manuals, as-builts, test records, punch list, warranty handover)
• This list of responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be supplemented as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related engineering degree.
• Experience: Minimum of nine (9) years of project management or related technical project execution experience, with at least six (6) years in gas engine generator sets, engine packaging, power generation, or related mission-critical infrastructure projects.
• Experience managing customer-facing projects from order intake through engineering, manufacturing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover of gas engine generator sets, power generation equipment, engine packaging, or related mission-critical infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues, change orders, documentation, and stakeholder communication
• Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, contracts, GA drawings, P&IDs, electrical drawings, control narratives, sequence of operations, submittals, technical specifications, and installation manuals.
• Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Asana, Smartsheet, or similar)
• Proficiency with MS Office, Google Workspace, or similar tools.
• Experience in multi-supplier or system integration project environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

o Experience supporting North American codes and certification processes.

o PMP or equivalent certification.

o Familiarity with manufacturing or product development environments.

o Familiarity with Japanese business practices.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Travel: 40% (supplier visits, packager coordination, FAT, and customer meetings)
• Standard Monday through Friday work week. Additional hours as required.

  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally up to 25 lbs.
